UNIT TEST 7 ● ANSWER KEY

Writing

Can write an entertaining narrative with a dramatic or mysterious opening.

Sample answer

When we entered his house, we noticed a robot standing silently in the corner of the room. I wanted to stop
and examine it, but Carrie told me there wasn’t time, and she was right. The evil professor could return at any
moment and we needed to find the plans and escape as soon as possible.
We ran from room to room, looking for any clues that might help us locate the information we needed.
Suddenly, I heard a noise behind me. I spun around and gasped. The robot which had looked so lifeless a few
moments earlier was standing right behind me. ‘Carrie! Help’ I yelled as loudly as I could. Surprisingly, the
robot moved back, whispering urgently for me to be quiet.
‘If you promise to help me leave this place, I’ll show you where you can find the plans’ said the robot. I’d never
encountered such an intelligent robot before, it was almost as if I was talking to a real human being. We had
no time to lose, so we quickly agreed and the robot led us to a hidden room full of documents. We grabbed
the plans and ran, pulling the robot behind us.
It was only when we got back home that we realised our mistake. This was no robot. It was the evil professor
in disguise, and we had led him straight to our hiding place. What’s worse, the plans we had taken were all
fake. Before we could grab him, the professor disappeared.
Suddenly we heard a shout from the kitchen. ‘Carrie! Matilda! Dinner is ready’. Our game would have to wait
until after our meal.
