Web and Mobile Based Tourist Travel Guide System for Fiji’s Tourism
Industry
The economy in Fiji is leading the tourism sector however, the

technologies that are being used in this sector is limited to address the number of

problems faced by the tourists travelling to Fiji. Some of the problems are

bookings for accommodation, retrieving information about different activities in

the country, navigation to tourist spots, translation to indigenous Fijian language

and access to information on the weather. This paper presents a tourism

information system that gives a centralized tourist travel guide system for Fiji

where a number of services are available. To provide all the necessary

information and tools that can be used by tourists to organize their trip is the

main purpose of the centralized system based on web services. A prototype of

the mobile application that demonstrates the proposed system is implemented

and tested in order to guide further developments in this area. (Singh, 2014)

Research Methodology

This chapter focuses in different procedures of data gathering and the

research methods prepared by the researchers in order to establish the

fundamentals for the development of the Faces of Negros Occidental Web

Application to be use by the Negros Provincial Tourism Office. This chapter

includes the Research Approach, System Development Methodology, and

System Requirements.

3.1 Research Approach

The researchers used the “face to face method” also known as interview

as a strategy. Where the researchers gathered reliable facts directly from the

office head of the tourism office and from the staffs of the ICTD office. The

interview was conducted for the purpose of collecting information, and data

analysis to identify guests and visitors requirements for the development of the

proposed web application and to uncover the problems experienced by the

organization. Using the personal communication, it is possible to gather more

reliable information. Face to face method ensures that the gathered data are

accurate and relevant.

Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Data

This chapter discusses the major function of the system, the issues on the

performance, and the management of the Faces of Negros Occidental Web-

based Application. This chapter focuses on what the application could do and

what may be done in order for the application to function efficiently.

4.1 Major Software Functions

Faces of Negros Occidental Web Application function as an online blog for

Tourism Office. The web application offers a technical feature that serve as travel

guide which analyze the best route for the guest to reach the desired destination

faster and easier. The web application is also able to know the distance, the time

of travel, and gives direction to the guest. The web application also features an

account for the guest which able them to upload a photo or status of the place

which the guest already visited or wish to visit. In line with this features, the guest

can give a comment and rate a place unlike from the visitor which can only give

their comment. Another feature is the web application is able to give a survey

questionnaire for every guest like tourism attraction visitor survey,

accommodation establishment visitor survey, and the departure point visitor

survey. Based on the answers of the guest, the said web application can

Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendation

This chapter presents the summary of the research project and the

conclusion, and recommendations made by the researchers.

5.1 Summary

After gathering and analyzing all the important data, the researchers

identified the problems that lead to the creation of Faces of Negros Occidental

Web Application for the Negros Occidental Tourism Office. This web application

helps the guest or the visitor to know the different tourist spots here in Negros

Occidental and explore the desired places with ease; they could also check the

calendar of events and festivals, and also navigate the locations of the desired

destination. The researchers were able to provide relevant information about the

different places here in Negros Occidental, the time traveled, the distance, and

the estimated travel cost.

The researchers used the Iterative Model as a guide in developing the

web application. The researchers implemented and tested the system through

the internet in order to know if the system meets the requirements. Maintenance

took place by continuously monitoring the system with the advent of new

requirements and errors. The researchers also identified several requirements

crucial for the function of the system. These requirements were listed and were
