“Opo” is an expression that can help understand the main reason why she cannot
express herself as much as she wanted to her grandfather. She had been to
traumatized from her fathers passing that she too feared losing someone else that
loved her dearly. It was an escape from explaining after any questions thrown at
her, any questions that asked if she was okay or not.

How would you relate the story to what is happening to the world right now? Identify ONE major
event in the story and how it reflects and affects the people nowadays.

The plot of this story as a whole shows how relatable it is to teenagers who strive for independency.
Although Alu wasn’t looking for independency, it shows how she had isolated herself because of
events that had happened and the lack of essentials needed to maintain a bond. The way she avoided
her grandparents simply because of distance and her will reflects on who she really is growing up,
wanting to only be close with the people that are close by choice, and nowadays teenagers try to do
the same with family members. They hide themselves from those they can’t necessarily relate to and
burden themselves with the lack of connection as a family.
