The concept of morality according to Rufino Torres Pianto

Throughout history various people have deepened about moral, have introduced their
own concept of moral, authors like Adam Smith, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Immanuel Kant,
Friedrich Hegel, Soren Kierkegaard. Rufino Torres Pianto, anthropologist and professor of
Universidad Nacional del Centro de Perú, recognize and collect the concepts of this authors, their
different perceptions of moral, distinct one from another, because of the contrast of time and
context.
Knowing the thoughts and concepts introduced by these authors that impact and continue
to impact society, we can comprehend in a better way how the world works nowadays.
For the author, the moral is something natural of the human being and it must be a
balance between freedoms and responsibilities. Some of the authors cited by him focus on
freedom, like Adam Smith, who considered that morality is the product of freedom. Others
leaned more towards the responsibilities, like Rousseau who believed that humanity should be
under some rules to guarantee the harmony of the society. On the other hand, Kant merges the
responsibilities and the freedom, he said that the freedom is found in the obedience of the moral
law that is inside of us. And the last authors mentioned by Rufino, Hegel and Kierkegaard share
the idea that the moral is something personal, there are no absolute truths therefore the State can
not determine the correct and incorrect actions. (Torres, 2014)
