1. We have discussed the case of The Queen Vs Dudley and Stephens in

class. Some people say that Parker should be the one sacrificed. Their
reason is that, in such a desperate situation someone should be
sacrificed for the sake of survival for other crew members and his
chance of survival is the lowest. Thus, he should be the one sacrificed.
Show an argument demonstrating that it might not be a good reason to
sacrifice Parker. (25%)

2. Some people say that what Dudley and Stephens did is wrong, because
“they murdered Parker”. Try to show that the reason is not strong
enough to claim what they did is wrong. (25%)

3. We have discussed the case of a ticking bomb in class. Some people

say we should torture the suspect for the sake of any relevant
information about the bomb because it is 600,000 people’s lives we are
talking about. Try to show that it is not a “sufficient reason” to support
the claim that it is permissible to torture the suspect. (25%)

4. We have discussed about homosexuality. There are two ideas often

cited as reasons to reject homosexuality. Firstly, people think
homosexual activities are disgusting, thus such activities should be
banned. Secondly, homosexual is unnatural. Try to show all of them
are not good reason to reject homosexuality. (25%)
