O Lord, who is great and merciful, I come to you pleading for your guidance

and wisdom as I defend the work I have done dedicated to Your Most Holy Name,
and for Your glory. Meanwhile, I also thank you for the opportunity given to present
and defend my thesis. I thank you for the people offering succors in my times of
hardships and distress, especially my Thesis Adviser and my Instructor who are
truly present in my times of need. Thank you for giving me these Panelists who will
help me improve the study. Secondly, help me in my defense. May I not be overly-
sensitive when offered correction, but may I also know the difference between
personal opinion and areas where I clearly could have done better. May I listen to
the council of my elders, and may the defense be a reasonably edifying experience

Good Evening everyone (and Good afternoon Fr. Roderich), welcome to my

defense, and I truly appreciate the time you have specially allocated just to hear
my whines and cries as I desperately defend my work. I hope I would make it out of
this defense in one piece. Wish me Luck.

Now, I wish to clarify first that my Research is entitled: A Comparison on

Contemporary Cebuano Liturgical Music and of Contemporary Cebuano Secular
Music.
Read Abstract:

Contemporary Cebuano Liturgical and Secular Music are genres that share

commonalities despite their obvious differences in purpose. This study aims to identify those

factors that create the commonality between these two genres by looking at the rhythmic,

harmonic, and lyrical characteristics of both genres. This study is Qualitative in nature. Data is

collected by looking at musical notations and tablatures from different songs to properly analyze

the musical characteristics of the genres mentioned earlier. The researcher also gathers data from

different literary works to reinforce his claims and conclusions, and also by asking musicians

with broad knowledge of both Contemporary Cebuano Liturgical and Secular Music.
