Anemia or lack of hemoglobin in adolescents will cause health

problems. Adolescent girls who suffer from anemia are at risk of
becoming women of childbearing age who are anemic, becoming anemic
pregnant women, and even experiencing a lack of protein, which then
becomes the cause of the increased possibility of giving birth to
babies with low weight, stunting, complications during childbirth, and
several other risks. One of the causes of anemia is the consumption of
iron absorption inhibitors such as tea. This study aims to determine
the correlation between the frequency of drinking tea and hemoglobin
levels in adolescent girls in grade XI at SMAN 1 Pemenang.

The research was an analytic study with a ceoss-sectional design. The

population was all girl students in grade XI, Le.,60 students. The
number of samples was 38, which were selected using purposive
sampling. The data was analyzed using chi-square.

The results showed that 31 students (81.6%) drank tea less than seven
times per week, and 21 students (55.3%) had normal hemoglobin
levels.the results of the chi-square test showed that the p value was
0.022 (p <0.05), which means that there is a correlation between the
frequency of drinking tea and hemoglobin levels.

It is recommended for teenage girls to reduce tea consumption and

avoid consuming tea together with meals so that hemoglobin absorption
does not occur.
