Bridge course Worksheet

(2022-2023)
Grade:8 Subject: IT

Name: _________________________ Date: __________

I. Question and answer

Q1) What can an Excel formula contain?

Ans) An Excel formula can contain values, cell references, functions, and operators. Values are in the numeric
format like, 36.7 and in string format like, “Computer”. Cell references identifies a cell or a range of cells in a
worksheet like, C3, B2:B5. Functions like, sum and average. Operators like, +, –, *.
Q2) Write the steps to show the formulas copied to the cell range D3:F3.
Ans) To show the formulas copied to the cell range D3:F3, click the Formulas tab. In the Formula Auditing
group, click the Show Formulas button. The formula used in each of the cells of the range will be shown in the
cells
Q3) In which type of referencing do you get a warning message? Explain why.
Ans) You will see a warning in circular referencing. It occurs when a formula refers to its own value. For
example, if you enter the formula =A1*A2*A3 in cell A3, every time it calculates the formula in cell A3, it must
be calculated again because A3 has changed. The calculation would go on forever
Q4) What type of formula can we use in a text value? Explain with an example.
Ans) A text formula can be used to join strings together. This is called concatenation. We use the ampersand (&)
character to concatenate strings. For example, if you type = “Work”& “ ” & “Hard” in a cell and press Enter, you
will see the result Work Hard.
Q5) Name the six categories of functions in the Function Library.
Ans) Six categories of functions in the Function Library are: 1. Financial 2. Logical 3. Text 4. Date & Time 5.
Lookup & Reference 6. Math & Trigonometry
Q6) Name the different types of charts.
Ans) The different types of charts are as follows: Line chart Column chart 3-D Stacked Column chart Scatter
chart Pie chart Doughnut chart Area chart Radar chart 3-D Surface chart Hierarchical charts
Q7) How can you change the chart type?
Ans) Click the Change Chart Type button in the Type group. The Change Chart Type dialog box appears. Select
a new chart type and the desired layout. Click OK. The selected chart will appear.

Q8) What is a waterfall chart?

Ans) A waterfall chart focuses on the data points which make up the total. This is the ideal chart to show the
break-up of income and expenses.
II Fill in the blanks with the correct words.

1. The _____________ symbol is used for absolute referencing. Dollar

2. All cells in columns B through D are referred to as____________________. B:D
3. The ___________________ function is used to add the values of cells. SUM
4. The concatenation operator is____________________. Ampersand
5. A formula always starts by typing the______________ sign. Equal
6. If you have typed a formula in a cell, you can see the formula in the ________________ bar when the
cell is selected. Formula

III Write T for the True statement and F for the false one.

1. The Min function is used to find the smallest value in a set of values. [ T ]
2. The default cell referencing is absolute. [ F ]
3. When you select a cell, it appears in the Name Box [ T ]
4. #Div/0! Shows that the formula contains an invalid operation. [ T ]
5. The Count function counts the number of columns filled. [ F ]
6. The error # # # # # shows that the column is not wide enough to display the value. [ T]

IV Choose the correct option.

1. The AutoSum button is present in the: [ ]
a. Editing group b. Function Library group c. Math group d. i and ii
2. Which is not a mathematical operator? [ ]
a. + b. ^ c. = d. *
3. The______________ feature adds the numbers automatically. [ ]
a. Add b. Auto c. AutoSum d. Sum
4. Which one is a type of cell referencing? [ ]
a. Single b. Double c. Mixed d. Auto
V Application Based Questions
a) Shipra wants to calculate the GST and Net Amount on
the items shown in the worksheet.
i) What should be the formulas in C2 and D2?
Ans) C2 has formula = B2*B7 and D2 has formula = B2 + C2
i) How will you copy the formula from cell C2 to C3:C5
and from cell D2 to D3:D5?
Ans) To copy the formula from C2 to C3:C5, select cell C2 and, using the AutoFill handle, drag it to cell C5.
Release the mouse button; the calculated values will appear. Similarly, copy the formula from D2 to D3:D5.

b) Ramit wrote the formula = A1+A2+A3+A4 in the cell A4.

i) Why is he not getting the result ?
Ans) A circular reference occurs when a formula refers to its own value. Every time
it calculates the formula in cell A4, it must be calculated again because A4 has
changed.

ii) How can you help him come out of the warning message?
Ans) In warning message, click OK and correct the formula
