In the excerpts from The Telegraph: Nasa Astronaut Twins Scott and Mark Kelly No

Longer Genetically Identical after Space Trip (2018, March 15), the idea of genetic changes
in space is discussed by Knapton. Overall, Nasa discovered the new findings from twins Scott
and Mark Kelly. According to Knapton (2018), Scott and Mark invested time on board the
International Space Station (ISS); over a period of 340 days on board the ISS, seven percent
of Scott’s genes were not similar to brother Mark, checked by researchers. In addition, many
scientists believed that astronauts' bodies would return to normal on Earth; however; in 2016,
Scott’s body didn’t return to normal after landing. Knapton (2018) refers to The Twins Study
term, called by Nasa’s researchers; when Nasa took a special opportunity of having twins to
research genetic changes of a long time in space. According to Knapton (2018), Dr. Chris
Mason said that genes would change fast, as soon as the human body got into space and this
was similar to fireworks. Finally, Nasa’s research, as cited in the article, shows that many
elements can lead to negative effects on astronauts' bodies.
