This article is written by Iin Inawati. This is a data collection article. This article is focused on
how the role play is applied in teaching speaking in kindergarten extend and what kinds of
speaking performance students did during the process of teaching learning. The main idea of
the article is role play can help students who want to develop their speaking performance.
The article is supported with citations from the experts. There is not any written research
question. The author is used an exploratory case study research in this article. There were 22
students whose ages between 5 and 6. The data were collected from classroom observations,
the rating scale of observation and daily learning records of the students. The advantages of
the role play are defined by the author. The first advantage of the role play is develop
students’ speaking performance, the second advantage is it can motivate students to use the
language and practice, the third advantage is the chance for the students to participate
actively, the last advantage is it can motivate the students’ to use foreign language. To
teaching speaking to young learners through role play a teacher uses three main stages. The
first stage is, activities before role play which is telling story section, introducing new
vocabularies and decide the characters. The second stage is, activities during role play which
is doing what has been practiced. The last stage of the role play is activities after role play
which is the feedback of what students did. During this process, students generate three kinds
of speaking performance. The first is naming objects, the second is producing simple
sentences and the last one is getting involved in a dialog. As a result of this research, using
role play is efficient for students to develop themselves.

It is a balanced article. The author cited experts says. Before he started to explain his article,
he gave some information beforehand. His work is related to his topic. There weren’t any
direct research questions.
