GED 109 – SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

REACTION PAPER
DOST VIRTUAL EXHIBIT

First and foremost, thank you for the DOST providing this kind of exhibit so that we can
take a virtual tour and learn about the innovations and inventions created by Filipino talents
and technologies. It's encouraging and I am very happy to see that DOST is working on a
project whose goals are to benefit the community, the environment, and society as a whole. I
used to believe that DOST's sole goal was to provide scholarships to students, but now I see
that they are also here to develop and invent something useful. I salute in DOST since they
prioritize Filipino-made items above high-tech and expensive items from different countries.
Also, it's inspiring to know that the Department of Science and Technology has a program
for young innovators that provides funds to students who desire to pursue an innovative
project that will result in a high-quality research paper, publication, or invention. It's a terrific
initiative for students who have a brilliant idea or invention but don't have enough money;
I've previously heard about it from one of my professors. It is one of DOST's top programs,
in which students with potential are given the opportunity to continue and succeed with their
innovations.

I was amazed by all of the inventions featured in the virtual exhibit, especially after
reading the descriptions of each one. The Charging In Minutes (CharM) vehicle, which is a
fast-charging system capable of fully charging electric tricycles in 30 minutes, impressed me
the most. It comes with an in-vehicle electronic management unit for battery protection,
monitoring, and vehicle-charger communications. CharM is based on the CHAdeMO
international protocol for safety reliability. Nowadays, fuel is too expensive for everyone,
and the smoke that vehicles emit on a daily basis is bad for our environment and ecosystem.
However, thanks to this invention, users no longer need to buy fuel to run car, and can
reduce air pollution caused by vehicle smoke. We also have solar panels that help us save
money on electricity and that we can use to charge the CharM tricycle for free. If this
invention becomes widely available for purchase by the general public, I am assured that it
will lead to significant improvements.
