Laboratory Safety and Preventing the Spread of Disease

From the material that I read, I think it discussed about infection control and laboratory safety. A lab
worker must pay attention to work safety to avoid work accidents that come from chemicals or lab
equipment or specimen taken from the human body. If we don’t keep the lab safety then things like
SARS, Asian Flu, Escericha coli outbreaks and other pathogens such us the monkeypox virus remind
us that we are very vulnerable.

Disseases that may be encountered in laboratory can also be caused by microorganism like bacteria,
viruses, fungi, protozoa and parasites. Things that microorganisms need to survive are temorature (
they grow best at 98,6 F ), pH ( neutral ), darknes and moisture, nutrition and oxygen. The chain of
infections includes the infectious agent, reservoir host, outlet portal, mode of transmission, portal of
entry and vulnerable hosts. We can use of alcohol based hand rub for routine decontamination of
the hand on many situation to avoid disease transmission.
