Term Test 1

Session :2021-22 MBA : Operations Research

Semester : Second Paper : MB 201
Time : 1 Hours Full Mark : 30

Note: Attempt all questions.

Section – A (6 Marks)
(based on conceptual understanding)
1. Answer briefly any 3 of the following parts (3X2 =6 Marks)
a. Define Operations Research.

b. Define degeneracy in LPP

c. Discuss the various Limitations of Operations Research

d. What is a Slack Variable?
e. Explain Vogel's Approximation Method for finding initial basic feasible solution of
'transportation Problem.
f. Explain Least Cost Entry Method for finding initial basic feasible solution of
'transportation Problem.
g. Explain North West Corner Method for finding initial basic feasible solution of
'transportation Problem.

Section – B (10 Marks)

(based on description, discussion, explanation and analysis)

2. Attempt any One of the followings: (5 Marks)

a. Discuss in detail the importance of Operations Research in Decision making.
b. A factory produces two products A and B. Each of the Product A requires 2 hrs of
moulding, 2 hrs of grinding and 2hrs for polishing. The moulding machine can work
for 20 hrs, grinding machine for 24 hrs and polishing machine available for 13 hrs.
The profit is Rs 5 per unit of A and Rs 3 per unit of B. Assuming that the factory can
sell all that it produces, formulate the problem as a LPP , to maximize profit.
c. Solve the following L.P.P. by Graphical method
Maximize Z= X1 +X2
Subject to the constraints
X1+2X2≤ 2000
X1+X2≤ 1500
X2≤ 600
and X1, X2≥0.
