The London Hedge in 1587

The London Freehold (“The Rose Courts of London”) claim the sections of the Hedge
as its territory that correspond with the following sections of the mortal world:
 The “City of London” which is the area bounded by the original Roman walls
(on the map below, it the darker line that stretches from the Tower of
London on the right up and around and then ends at the Thames River near
Blackfriars.
 The section of Southwark along the river across from the city.
 The Thames River and London Bridge between the two.
The Hedge within the City is mostly narrow dark alleyways with domineering stone
edifices with few windows or doors. Periodically a hedge fruit plant will pop up for a
short time amidst the stone. Places of note going clockwise from the West:
 Rose Palace: Around the Golden Court’s Rose Palace (corresponding to St.
Paul’s) there is naturally a lush garden of hedge roses: red, white and black.
 Bone Hill is on the Hedge side of Bunhill Cemetery near Guildhall. Here the
hedge is lined with large bones that guard a haunted hill and an open maw
into the earth.
 Gresham’s Market @ the Royal Exchange is the site of the greatest Goblin
Market in London. Gateways opened in the Royal Exchange lead directly into
the Market.
 Pandora’s Garden: Near aldgate there is a lush, walled garden of strange
trees & plants. One can get goblin fruit here but one gets the sense that the
plants are closing in on you if you stay for long. There is a pond in the middle
where a nereid lives.
 The Gallows is the area corresponding to the Tower. It has thorn crows and
walls of jagged wood tied together by hangman’s rope.
 Thames Hall is the operational center for the Court of Snow. It sits in the
Hedge along the river between the Tower and Bridge.
 The Lodenstone is a large stone locked with iron bars that seals off a font, a
direct line from the mortal world to Arcadia. On the mortal side, it sits at the
heart of the crossroads at the north terminus of the Bridge. On the Hedge
side, it is a clearing around a crossroads with the barred stone at its center.
There, however, one can hear a rumbling from it as though it were fighting
against its bindings. Legend has it that within the font sits the Well of
Wisdom, which holds all manner of lost secrets within it.
 The Freehold maintain a single trod, Rose Road, that leads from Rose Palace
to Thames Hall.

Across the river in Southwark, the Hedge is mostly reeds and river foliage:
 Troll Bridge corresponds with London Bridge and is controlled by family of
Trod Trolls who demand payment for all who cross. Some prefer to avoid
them by traveling by boat or otherwise to avoid the cost and confrontation.
 The Pub, located at the foot of the bridge on the Southwark side, is a seedy
place for trading secrets and having clandestine meetings. It also serves as
the hollow of the Black Queen, ruler of the Court of Ash. It is said that the
trolls and ash court have an agreement to leave one another alone.

The areas beyond the Freehold are mostly fields of tall grasses with scrubs marking
the paths through the Hedge. The Hedge outside is dangerous with hobgoblins,
hedgeghosts, huntsmen and sometimes even the Gentry themselves prowling for
victims.
