dish up a double?

RORY MCILROY is aiming to land backto-back Major wins at Royal St Georges and secure his standing as golf s new superstar. The 22-year-old from Northern Ireland is already the toast of the sport after his amazing US Open victory at Congressional (right). And the precocious talent wants to add the Open title and Claret Jug to his haul, which would cap an amazing prize rise to the top in 2011. That wont be easy, though, especially when you add Luke Donald and Lee Westwood currently the top two players in the world into the mix. Neither have won a Major so far in their glittering careers and superb Sandwich would be a great place to break their duck. Last year, Louis Oosthuizen rocked the sport, winning the famous old trophy by seven shots at St Andrews.

Police pledge to review flag policy

BY MICHAEL McGLADE
michael.mcglade@jpress.co.uk POLICE have promised to review their actions in Ballyclare following a decision to remove flags in the town, which sparked widespread loyalist violence at the weekend. Six police officers were injured during the trouble when a loyalist mob hijacked a bus and rammed a police vehicle on Saturday night. The violence rapidly spread to Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus, with hundreds engaged in sporadic running battles with the police. After meeting community representatives in Ballyclare yesterday, assistant chief constable Alistair Finlay condemned the violence but said sorry to anyone who felt that they have not received the police service that we strive to deliver. News of the World says goodbye

On the cover of its 8,674th edition, the tabloid featured the headline emblazoned over images of its most famous front pages. The papers owner, Rupert Murdoch, last night flew into a political storm over his BSkyB takeover plans as he arrived in the UK to take personal charge of the phonehacking scandal. Labour leader Ed Miliband urged the media mogul to put his expansion plans on ice. See page 3
