Paula became a British sports hero when she won the 2002 and 2003 London Marathons. Paula was born in
Cheshire, England, in 1973. Her mother was a language teacher at the local school and her father was a runner in
his free time (he ran marathons). When she was very young Paula started to run with him. She wanted to be a
runner and she joined a running club when she was nine. Paula practised a lot, but she worked hard at school, too.
When she left school she went to university and studied French and German. She married another runner, Gary
Lough, and he became her manager.
Paula is very fit, of course, and she runs four hours every day. She also sleeps a lot. She usually eats healthy food,
but her favourite food is chocolate and ice cream.
