Avidor Minnetonka celebrates

opening one year later
(SUBMITTED PHOTO)
Almost exactly a year after opening its doors, Avidor Minnetonka finally celebrated with a ribbon
cutting. Representatives of the Edina and Minneapolis Regional Chambers of Commerce and
Avidor Minnetonka staff joined Minnetonka Mayor Brad Wiersum as he cut the ribbon and of-
ficially welcomed the 55+ active adult community to the city. “We are so pleased to have Avidor
Minnetonka here. The community is targeted at active people, and so is our city. We have Lake
Minnetonka here, we have a phenomenal parks system, we have a phenomenal trails system,
and we are committed to expanding that,” Mayor Wiersum said. Avidor Minnetonka is a 168-unit

Tonka football team regroups to play Rebels

By JOHN SHERMAN

The Minnetonka High football team

is on the road for the second week in a
row as a 7 p.m. Sept. 24 game at Cham-
plin Park looms.
Last Friday night, minus starting
quarterback Will Martin, who was side-
lined with an injury, the Skippers suf-
fered their first loss of the season, 35-7
at Maple Grove.
“We helped them with a couple of
fumbles and blown assignments,” Min-
netonka coach Mark Esch said.
The crucial plays in the game seemed
to go Maple Grove’s way, Esch thought.
Champlin Park has played one Lake
Conference school this season and lost
to the Wayzata Trojans 23-0 in week
2. As is the case most years, Champlin
Park has good size in the line on both
sides of the ball.
Coach Esch was expecting a medical
decision on Martin’s status by Tues-
day, Sept. 21. If the 6-foot-2 lefthander
is able to play, the Skippers’ passing
game could thrive. The Skippers have
a core group of capable receivers led by
