A review of recent expert analysis of the IT industry revealed that green IT adoptions and energy management will remain at the forefront of industry concerns throughout 2011. What is driving this forecast? Data center power consumption and energy costs. As a result, businesses now regard IT as a crucial part of business strategy, in turn scrutinizing the relationship between risk management, cost, and data center operations.
Whats IT facing in
Energy consumption caused by such high densities quickly is becoming a top concern.
www.apc.com/in
Energy consumption caused by such high densities therefore quickly is becoming a top concern. [D] ata center energy costs are rising faster than any other cost element, notes Gartner analyst Rakesh Kumar in Data Center Infrastructure Management: The Benefits of an Integrated Energy Management Software Approach (April 26, 2010). He adds that, [T]he problem is likely to get worse during the next few years as more organizations grow their technology infrastructures. Fortunately, there are ways to address the power and cooling challenges and costs that come with such high densities. Enter the world of Green IT and proactive energy monitoring and management. The energy efficiency forecast looks bright as companies continue to adopt carbon and energy management software systems to help reduce energy use and associated costs through better monitoring and management. According to a July 2010 independent report from Forrester Research, Inc., Market Update: The State Of Green IT Adoption, Q2 2010 by Daniel Krauss (with Christopher Mines and Charles Green), enterprise carbon and energy management (ECEM) systems are in place at nearly 20 percent of survey respondents. Forrester believes the growing role of IT in enabling green business processes will create significant new growth opportunities for vendors and service providers in 2010 and beyond. Seventeen percent of survey respondents are planning to implement an ECEM system in 2010 or 2011 and another 10 percent after 2011.
Gartners Kumar emphasizes the importance of an integrated approach to energy management. He explains, An integrated energy management software policy is essential for operating modern data centers, whether they are internal, hosting, or cloud service sites. He elaborates that such an integrated approach results in operational cost savings, operational efficiency, better capacity management and planning, and regulatory compliance. Where does this lead IT? To a world in which the oncerigid line between IT and the business is fading. As businesses turn to IT for better energy management, they are affirming the idea that IT no longer can operate in a vacuum. Instead, IT is fast becoming an integral part of the business strategy itself. As Gartner observes, 2010 heralds the beginning of change in many processes as organizations respond to the aftermath of the Great Recession. These changes offer enterprises the opportunity to leverage information technology toward significant business growth and continued optimization of business operations (New Normal Business Demands New Focus on Innovation, Cost, Risk Management and Governance, August 20, 2010). In 2011, the importance of aligning IT with business needs most certainly will continue to increase.
The APC by Schneider Electric InfraStruxure Management Software porfolio, which comprises InfraStruxure Central and InfraStruxure Operations software, uniquely gives data center managers endto-end visibility across their traditional IT space and facilities. Only APC by schneider electricTm InfrastruxureTm adapts quickly to your unique business needs If your business is like most businesses, its needs are dynamic and can change throughout the year. Perhaps it is facing ever-expanding customer or inventory databases? Or your company just acquired a new company? Your executive management may be excited about seeing a successful business strategy come to fruition. But as the IT manager, you know that your existing data center infrastructure realistically may not be able to handle your up-to-the-minute business needs or technology requirementseven while the business strategy theoretically can. Introducing the latest APC by schneider electric Infrastruxure solution Thats where APC by Schneider Electric steps in with its industry-leading data center expertise and infrastructure architecture. Now, our latest, most advanced APC InfraStruxure solution enables you to align your IT specifically to your changing business needs, positioning you as an integral part of your companys decision-making process.
As the industrys one-of-a-kind scalable, adaptable, and on-demand data center architecture, the InfraStruxure solution ensures that your data center can adapt easily, efficiently, and, perhaps most important, to your business, quickly. In fact, only InfraStruxure allows your IT to move at the speed of business itself! Consider this scenario: suppose you need to add new servers to accommodate updated applications. Or you hope to set up different servers for recently realigned business units. In the past, you as an IT person would have had limited visibility to how much power and cooling capacity you had outside the traditional IT space to take on such changes. Determining your power and cooling capacity at the facilities level most likely would have taken weeks, as well as much back-and-forth between facilities and IT. Now, with the Next Generation APC by Schneider Electric InfraStruxure solution, you can see right down to the power outlet level in real time to determine from your IT management view whether there is enough power redundancy level, cooling,

rack space, and weight support to add servers. And you can better right-size your physical infrastructure to optimize energy efficiency while minimizing costs. As part of the upgraded InfraStruxure solution, InfraStruxure Management portfolio gives you this end-to-end view of your data center so your IT decisions can be strategic business decisions as well (e.g., aligning your power and cooling buffer levels with your risk tolerance comfort level).
Newly introduced components are compatible with your existing solution Components are auto-discovered and configured by the out-of-the-box management system Available hot-swap modules can be redeployed in other solutions With todays fast, efficient, and high-performance Next Generation InfraStruxure solution, APC by Schneider Electric data centers mean business!
APC InfraStruxure has always been an advanced data center solution. But it has evolved to include the following:
The first fully modular three-phase power distribution unit (PDU). This PDU delivers ultra-high efficiency, advanced flexibility, and right-sized scalability where todays data centers need it most: at the rack level. Overhead InRow cooling units. InRow OA cools at the row level overhead using the pumped refrigerant, R134a, instead of chilled water. The unit is installed above the hot aisle so it frees up floor space, giving you greater flexibility as you plan your high-density zones. It also gives you increased cooling capacity. It captures up to 27 kW of hot IT exhaust air at the source, neutralizes it, and discharges cool air to the IT environment. The Symmetra PX 100 kW (for NAM and LAM). Providing up to 100 kW of hotscalable power protection, runtime, and power distribution, the Symmetra PX 100 kW is ideal for small and medium data centers that need more power within a smaller footprint.
Engineered as an integrated system next generation InfraStruxure delivers a 25 percent increase in power and cooling capacity with a 15 percent smaller footprint while reducing cost by 15 percent.
There are several reasons why roll-out is so fast. First, only InfraStruxure is a true modular architecture. Not only can you scale your architecture to what your business actually needs at any given time; you essentially can plug and play the installation. Uniquely engineered as an integrated system with modular power, power distribution, closecoupled cooling, security, integrated monitoring, and management, InfraStruxure is a complete architecture that enables customized solutions. Open architecture capabilities deliver any-ITvendor compatibility, affording you the flexibility and adaptability you need for speedy deployment. As a system, it provides the following additional benefits: Everything ships together as a complete system
