Chapter 1 - Essay

Since I was a little child, I am always looking forward to being able to have a
transaction in the bank all by myself. Sometimes my mom would bring me to banks
whenever she withdrew or deposit cash. Every time she transacts using the ATM, I
would find it cool. When I was in grade 9, I had the chance to have my debit card from
One Network Bank because our teacher in economics required us to have one. I
experienced withdrawing and depositing cash since then, which made me so happy and
proud of myself.

The time came when I needed to withdraw cash because my money was not
enough when I was going to buy a cellphone. It's been a while since I had to use the
ATM that time, so I was kind of nervous. In Gaisano Mall Kidapawan, the Banco de Oro
has its place, and since ONB is under BDO, I can use my card to withdraw there. During
lunchtime, there were a lot of people queuing at the ATM, so I line first, but I was so
nervous because it happens that my memory about my passcode is not clear, so I had
to arrange the numbers in my head randomly while I was waiting for my turn. When my
turn finally came, I immediately typed the passcode I had formed in my mind, but all of
those attempts were unsuccessful. I am starting to get embarrassed because it took
some time, so I gave up and let the person next to me take my turn.

Due to that transaction, I reopened my account and got a better knowledge of

bank transactions. I learned that I should not forget my passcode because the changing
process is exhausting. I realized that it is great to have a bank account because it is
convenient to manage finance using its presence. I must say that financial institutions
helped me become financially literate, and they made matters easier, especially during
the pandemic when face-to-face transactions were limited.
