The standard electronic control system consists of the following components:

 Machine ECM
 Engine ECM
 Monitor
 Soft switch panel
 Various switches, sensors and output devices

Two additional electronic control modules can be added for Product Link 201 and the
Machine Security System.

The electronic control system controls many of the hydraulic system functions on
M300C Excavators. The pilot functions that are controlled by the electronic control
system include the following functions:

 Regulate hydraulic horsepower.


 Lock and unlock the oscillating axle.
 Control the hydraulic lockout function.
 Control travel activation and travel lock
 Automatic Engine Speed Control (AESC)
 Control engagement of the parking brake.
 Transmission shifting
 Control the flow and pressure from the optional combined function valve.

The operator can select three different power modes in order to match the output of the
main pump to the hydraulic demand. The machines are equipped with the following
power modes: Economy, Power and Travel.

Economy mode is used for applications that are light duty such as grading or
positioning. Power mode provides maximum hydraulic power and high operating speed.
This mode is used for the following applications: truck loading, trenching and hydraulic
hammer. Travel mode is automatically engaged during machine travel. This mode
provides a drawbar pull that is maximum and maximum speed.

Under normal conditions, the pump is regulated by the engine speed that is selected by
the operator. The electronic control system limits the output of the hydraulic pumps to
Economy Mode under any of the following conditions:

 The limp home mode is activated.


 The air filter differential pressure switch is closed.
 The air inlet temperature is above 79 °C (174 °F).
 The hydraulic oil temperature is above 93 °C (200 °F) or below 14 °C (57 °F).
 The engine coolant is above 112 °C (234 °F).
