Maintenance Case: No Display Caused by the Faulty J1701 for the NXT Series INTERNAL

1 Fault Symptom
The phone has no display after startup.

2 Cause Analysis and Process

1. Analysis
For phones that have the display failure, the cause is usually the display screen itself. Replacing the
display screen can rectify the fault. If replacing the display screen does not rectify the fault, we can
start from J1701. J1701 is the connector for the LCD and touchscreen that connects the main chip
U300 to the LCD module. The LCD transmits images using the MIPI high-speed signal. To make the
LCD work properly, LED+, LCD-VSP, LCD-VSN, and TP-LCD-VDDIO must be normal. Also
several control signal circuits are required to control the LCD. If CLK, DATA, RST, or ID is abnormal,
the LCD may malfunction. Therefore, we can test the preceding signal circuits when analyzing the
cause. The point that has an abnormal test result is the faulty point.

2. Troubleshooting
(1) Visual inspection shows that the PCBA has no cosmetic defects and BTB connectors are not
damaged or poorly soldered.
(2) Use the multimeter to measure the peripheral components of J1701. Results show that the ground
impedance of T1701–T1705 is 485, which is a normal value, and the ground impedance of J1701's
pin 39 is 525.
(3) Measurements using the multimeter show that the voltage of C1723 (LCD_VSP) is 5.5 V, C1724
(LCD_VSN) 5.5 V, which are both normal. This indicates that U1702 is normal and not the cause.
Further measurements using the multimeter reveal that the voltage of C1719 (VOUT4_1V85)
voltage is 1.85 V. Install the LCD and use ComPartner to perform a single-point test with the
screen turned on: Use the multimeter to measure the voltage of C1703 (LED+). The result is 4.3
V, which should be 24 V in normal conditions. Therefore, the boost voltage chip U1701 may be
faulty. Use the multimeter to measure the peripheral ground impedance of U1701. No exception is
found. Initial inspection reveals that J1701 is defective, resulting in the boost voltage failure.
(4) Test points are shown in the following figure.

3 Results, Conclusion, and Solution

The fault is rectified after J1701 is replaced.

4 Summary of Experience and Suggestions

If the startup current is normal, the screen does not turn on, and LED+ has no boost voltage, it is highly
possible that the boost voltage chip or the inductor L1701 is damaged. We should pay special attention to
these two components during maintenance.
