I saw a dollhouse at a garage sale

It was pink and covered in hearts

Who cares if the doors were cracked

or if the inside was missing parts?

“Is this for your sister?” asked the woman

Who packaged it in a bag with strings untied

“No, for me!” I told her confidently before

I took it home and displayed it with pride

A child’s toy. A sunny day. A good show.

As I get older, things make me smile more

I choose to laugh at something another

me would have been devastated for

Sometimes I think about that day

They may have judged me, but see,

I did not buy the dollhouse for her -

I bought it for the girl inside of me
