Scene: Rain is pouring hard.

Arifin is showing Maria the

Police Mobile for reference on her book. Somehow their
talk becomes personal and have lead Arifin to talk
about his past relationship.

Arifin rolls up the window to smoke a cigarette.

Arifin. I’ll just make it quick. I hope you’re ready for a

boring story from an old man like me.

The smoke from the cigarette transitions into a flashback.

Arifin. It started when I buried myself in my work.

I wasn’t even chief back then.
I worked murder case.
I’d spend days tracking down criminals…

Arifin. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for me to work two or

three days without coming home.

I left my wife at home to take care of my son.

Time passed… The work never let up…

And we had another child. A reminder that we still

loved each other.

An image of his wife appears with the eyes obscured by the smoke
of the cigarette.

Arifin. I’m not even sure if I still remember her face…

It’s all… Foggy.

My last memory of her

The smoke transitions into a drop of blood, falling to the floor

Arifin. Was a drop of violence… And Betrayal

Arifin (Subtly Breaking).

She left with a man I’d never met…

Without so much as a divorce.

She left me with two children and one broken heart.

The flashback ends and we’re back at the car. With Maria looking
towards him listening carefully.

Arifin. (Regaining composure).

The apartment I took you back to was where I went to

empty my head…

Sometimes I’d sit alone and look up at the heaven.

Looks up and starts laughing.

“Is this my punishment for all the wrong in my life?”

Continues laughing, while covering his tears

Funny thing is… I don’t even believe in God. Or heaven

Just a cathartic question. Something to make me feel

better…

Wipes tears. And voice slowly breaking.

Ah crap… I’m sorry… Sorry you have to see me like this
