Majority of residents are aware that the prescription are audited on regular basis and the
prescription has a component of drug treatment and non-drug treatment and to capture history of
allergy emphasized the need for training in identifying possible drug interaction.

They are aware that they can modify their prescription to avoid unfamiliar drugs and have an
opportunity to consult faculty references, printed drug index, online data basis, and Pharmacy
App to help them to get acquainted with unfamiliar drugs.

They are aware that they need to be having valid Medical Council Reg. and prescribe using
generic names and in capitals (legile handwriting). The use of Brand names is optional, As per
MCI prescription format. They were aware about avoiding error prone abbreviations and need to
calculate H/W/BMI for dose calculation based on drugs chosen for particular patient.

how to write a prescription

They seem to be reluctant to use the services of interns to write prescriptions though they have
temporary registration with Medical council. They had some exposure in using HIS for writing
prescriptions and being relatively more tech savvy than most of the consultants preferred using
HIS for writing prescriptions. All of them were aware that OPD Prescriptions are pre-dated with
current Date & MRD No. of the patient coming to OPD for consultation.
