A leading telecommunica�ons and Internet service provider in southern

Africa wanted to mi�gate business risks while addressing challenges
such as network malfunc�on. The company served more than 100,000
subscribers, covering segments such as residen�al and small offices,
small and medium enterprises, and large enterprises.

Despite managing one of the most advanced telecom networks in

Africa, the telecom enterprise faced issues such as insufficient risk
assessment and coverage.

The company engaged Subex to leverage domain exper�se in enterprise

risk management as well as rich experience in automa�on. Subex
deployed an onsite-offshore team to devise and implement a risk
assessment and fraud management road map for the telecom company.

The onsite subject ma�er expert monitored risk control coverage and
enhanced automa�on at the telco. The opera�ons team managed repe-
��on of business issues captured in the knowledge repository of Subex
to address gaps in risk control coverage and define the scope of automa-
�on. The offshore analysts undertook risk analysis of daily opera�ons
and inves�gated excep�ons across revenue streams.

Derisking business, accelera�ng growth

Subex formulated a road map and implemented a risk assessment strat-
egy for the telecom company. Our Managed Services team was involved
in comprehensive risk assessment and mi�ga�on at the telecom enter-
prise for two and a half years.

Subex helped the telecom company achieve a risk assessment coverage

of 42.5%, exceeding the target of 35%. Our holis�c risk mi�ga�on strat-
egy enabled the company to increase automa�on coverage from 22% to
86% during the engagement. Significantly, the Subex team iden�fied 22
areas of revenue leakage, generated savings of US$ 1.8 million and
delivered a return on investment of 277%.

The successful risk assessment journey of the southern African telco set
a new benchmark in risk mi�ga�on for the region. The telecom compa-
ny and Subex were honored with the Global Telecoms Business (GTB)
Innova�on & Technology award for ‘Outcome driven revenue assurance
managed services partnership’ at the GTB Telecoms Innova�on Summit
& Awards 2016.
