DESIGNS (in a quantitative study)

Quantitative – it involves collection of numeric data; can be done through

experimentation; survey questionnaire (research instrument)

4 designs in a quantitative study

1. Descriptive – the basic and most existent design; used to describe the variables
used in the study
2. Correlational – what happens to variable2 if I increase/decrease variable1; simply
put, this is “relationship”

Hypothesis: would an increase in allowance also increase the grades of the

students?

3. Comparative – to compare; parameters should be comparable

MSAP: English, math (bsmare), technical (bsmt)
4. Predictive – predict; forecast

<STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM>

<General statement of the problem>

The study will determine the <variable1>, <variable2>, and <variable3>

<among/of the> <respondents/participants> in <location> during <when> {as bases for
a proposed <action/intervention/development> plan}.

BULLYING AND SELF-EFFICACY OF THE MARITIME STUDENTS

The study will determine the bullying and self-efficacy of the third-year marine
transportation students in DMMA College of Southern Philippines, Davao City during the
second semester, SY 2021 – 2022 as bases for a proposed action plan.

Specifically, it will answer the following questions:

<WRITE FIRST THE VARIABLES, HYPOTHESES, OUTPUT>

1. What is the level of bullying among the students? {level if the variable is
measured as a scale: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5}

// allowance (actual amount): how much is the allowance of the student in a

weekly basis?

2. What is the level of self-efficacy of the students?

3. (HYPOTHESIS: CORRELATIONAL) Is there a significant relationship
between bullying and self-efficacy?
4. (OUTPUT) What action plan can be proposed based on the findings of the
study?

COMPARATIVE DESIGN: parameters for comparison have to be established first

A study was conducted to determine which is the better academic performance between
blended learning and online learning.

The study will determine the academic performance of the maritime students in DMMA
College of Southern Philippines during the first semester, SY 2021 – 2022 as bases for
a proposed development plan.

Specifically, …

1. What is the academic performance of the students in the blended learning

modality?
2. What is the academic performance of the students in the online learning
modality?
3. Is there a significant difference on the academic performance between the
blended and online learning modalities?
4. What development plan can be proposed based on the findings of the study?

COMPARATIVE: ESTABLISHING FIRST THE PROFILE

The study will determine the depression, anxiety, and stress among the maritime
students in DMMA College of Southern Philippines during the second semester, SY
2021 – 2022 as bases for a proposed action plan.

1. What is the profile of the maritime students in terms of:

1.1. Course;
1.2. Year level;
1.3. Socio-economic status;
1.4. Geographical location;
1.5. Availability of technical resources;
1.6. Type of internet connection;
1.7. Internet speed; and,
1.8. Type of learning modality?
2. What is the level of depression, anxiety, and stress of the maritime students?
3. Is there a significant differenced on the depression, anxiety, and stress {across |
when grouped according to their} profiles?
4. What action plan can be proposed based on the findings of the study?
PREDICTIVE DESIGN – forecast / predict

The study will determine the predictors of the academic performance of the students in
DMMA College of Southern Philippines during the second semester, SY 2021 – 2022 as
bases for a proposed action plan.

Specifically, …

1. What is the profile of the students in terms of:

1.1. Allowance;
1.2. Socio-economic status;
1.3. Geographical location;
1.4. Availability of technical resources;
1.5. Type of internet connection;
1.6. Internet speed; and,
1.7. Type of learning modality?
2. What is the level of study habits of the students?
3. What is the academic performance of the students?
4. (HYPOTHESIS: CORRELATIONAL) Is there a significant relationship between
the following:
4.1. Academic performance and profile of the students; and,
4.2. Academic performance and study habits?
5. (HYPOTHESIS: PREDICTIVE) {What factors in the profile and study habits that
significantly influence the | What predicts} academic performance?
6. What action plan can be proposed based on the findings of the study?
