GORDON’S 11 FUNCTIONAL HEALTH PATTERNS

 Health Perception – Health Management Pattern


The patient verbalized that she is not very particular about her health. When we asked her if
she was taking any medicine recently, she answered yes but she was not aware what were
those medicines that she was taking for. She stated that she has no allergy to drugs.

 Nutritional – Metabolic Pattern


According to the patient, she eats three times a day with snacks in between. She loves to eat,
and she is not picky about food. According further to the daughter, Mommy E has no food
allergy, but the doctor restricted her to eat oily foods.

 Elimination Pattern
According to the patient, she urinates 6 times in a day, and she described her urine as color
yellow and no odor. Her bowel movement in a day is once or twice and she stated that there
is no pain when she is voiding.

 Activity – Exercise Pattern


According to the patient, she cannot exercise as she is not able to walk as she is bedridden.
Also, she stated cannot anymore perform any simple activities because of her condition as
she is experiencing difficulty of breathing.

 Cognitive – Perceptual Pattern


The patient was able to answer when we asked her about the time, date, and place. She was
also able to follow instruction.

 Sleep – Rest Pattern


The patient verbalized that she sleeps differently depending on the medication she is given.
She stated that some drugs cause her to sleep early, while others keep her awake at night.
 Self – Perception – Self – Concept Pattern
According to the patient, she considers herself to be a good mother. However, she stated
that she is dissatisfied with her life because she is sick, which prevents her from enjoying it.

 Role – Relationship Pattern


According to the patient, she is a housewife. Mommy E was married years ago and her
husband died 6 years ago. She has 6 children 5 girls and 1 boy and are all married.

 Sexuality – Reproductive Pattern


Genital examination was done and reports showed no history of unusual bleeding or
discharges.

 Coping – Stress Tolerance Pattern


There was no sufficient data describing how patient copes with stress although she stated
that simply remained calm and silent and engaged in her favorite activities.

 Value – Belief Pattern


According to the patient, her religion is Iglesia Ni Cristo and often goes to the church. she
also stated “She finds peace in the church”. also claimed that she had her menopause by age
53.
