Barcelona is the second most populated city in Spain and the Iberian Peninsula.

It is also recognized as a
"global city" for its great cultural, historical and architectural wealth. That is why it has been chosen on multiple
occasions for the realization of major world events, such as the Olympic Games or the Universal Forum of
Cultures.
In the city of Barcelona there are two mountains that dominate the views, so they have been converted into
viewpoints. One of them is Montjuic. Montjuic is a small hill located next to the port. At its top is an old military
castle that served to guard the entrance to Barcelona from the sea. In this place there is also the botanical
garden that has a unique collection of cactus. Other highlights of this city are the gastronomy and the large
number of parks. The best known parks are Güell Park and Parque de la Ciudadela.
Places they can visit Some of the places you can visit when you travel to Spain are:
a. The Gothic Quarter: it is in the center of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings date from Medieval
times, and some others as far back as the Roman settlement.
b. PLAÇA DE SANT JAUME "Saint James's Square “is the administrative heart of Barcelona. At one side of
the square there is the town hall and at the other the offices of the Presidency of Catalonia.
c. The Sagrada Família: It is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona. It was designed by Antoni Gaudi in
1882. The church is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
d. BARCELONA CATHEDRAL It was constructed throughout 13th to 15th Centuries and in the 19th Century
was constructed the neo-gothic façade. It is dedicated to Eulalia of Barcelona, co-patron saint of the city, a
young virgin who suffered martyrdom during Roman times in the city
e. LA RAMBLA: It is a long street in the center of Barcelona. It starts in Plaça Catalunya between the old
quartiers Barri Gòtic and El Raval and it finishes at Port Vell with the Christopher Columbus Monument near
the sea.
f. PORTAL DE L’ANGEL Its a pedestrian street and it’s always crowded with tourists at any time of the year.
This place is one of the most important shopping venues in Barcelona.
g. Parc Güell: It is a beautiful, colorful and lively park full of oddities. It is designated as a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. It was created between 1900 and 1914 by Antoni Gaudí.

INTERESTING FACTS: - An interesting thing about Barcelona is the photovoltaic panel in the Plaza del
Forum. The photovoltaic panel is one of the most important solar power plants in Spain. This structure
produces the equivalent consumption of some 140 families in Barcelona. Its surface is similar to that of a
soccer field. In addition, this structure has almost three thousand panels for the use of solar energy that avoid
the emission of 440 tons of CO2 per year.
