CHAPTER 2 REFLECTION
THEORETICAL AND CONCEPTUAL FOUNDATION
The whole chapter discussed the four major things namely; The School as School
System, The Role of Leadership, Communication and Human Relationships, Philosophical,
Psychological and Operational Concepts. In the discussion of school as school system, it was
clearly discussed and emphasized the major and important role of school as a system in
developing the curriculum.

Hence, school as a school system is an encompassing term for the whole organization,
structure and delivery of education in an area from a borough to a nation. Education systems
consider legislation, policy and funding from central government which then feeds down to the
placement and design of schools, how the school fills with teaching staff, non-teaching staff and
students. What subjects are on offer to the schools and how the schools themselves are
assessed and tracked to ensure they are fit for purpose. This boils all the way down to how a
teacher is trained, how they are expected to deliver a lesson and the overall experience of the
student.

Likewise, under the discussion of The Role of Leadership, it was highlighted the
significant role and impact of leaders in a school setting or any organization in general. The
moment we say The Role we start putting boundaries and limits around it. An actor playing a
role in the film is limited by the character he/she is playing. In an organization, there are many
roles and most of them are tied to a Job Description. I call them a BOX that contains the list of
responsibilities. Being a leader automatically makes it boundless. There are no limits. It might
sound overwhelming but believe me, it is everything within the BOX and anything outside
the BOX. The leader in an organization is someone who does everything it takes to the
existential purpose of the organization. A leader is someone who does anything rightful to bring
the results and also stands for any outcome. A leader is someone who not only provides the
vision but also creates directions. A leader is someone who nurtures the conditions for the
progress, growth, and success of the organization on one hand and drives the actions on the
other hand.
A leader is someone who demonstrates strong decisiveness but at the same time promotes
the culture of collective creativity.

In view of the discussion in Communication and Human Relationships, it was highlighted

that the essence of human relationships and communications is in the manifestation of a mutual
state of harmonious connection. Prior to connecting harmoniously, we each experience
numerous positive and negative sensations that arise in our contact with each other. Eventually,
this exchange leads to the formation of a new and harmonious kind of connection.

Furthermore, with regard to the Philosophical Concept, a specific philosophy or

worldview serves for the Premises of an Educational Theory. An Education Theory is a
conclusion which is adopted for the justification concerning what is taught and what is not
taught, and how a subject is taught and how it is not taught. As we all know that Philosophy is
the seeking and loving of wisdom (greek: Philo=love, and Sophy=wisdom). So, as wisdom is
often called the ‘right application of knowledge’ one's philosophy will drive the goals of the
curricula one uses. Further, a clear philosophy of education will influence the methods and
approach of any teacher.

In conclusion, out from the whole things that were being discussed in this Chapter, I
have realized that being a leader or a school head in school is not definitely easy because huge
responsibilities await or attached to your position. I know that being a leader is innate to us coz
we are born leaders in our own right. As what John Quincy Adams said ““If your actions inspire
others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” An effective
leader is an excellent team player and has a strong will because most of the decisions either big
or small, you’ll be the final say. Being a successful leader as well will help to maximize efficiency
and to achieve organizational goals. The leader can motivate others and building morale,
provide the best guidance to them, can create confidence, will take initial decisions, and well
coordinate all. The leader will represent the organization. As a leader, he can invite the support
and co-operation of subordinates.
