Abstract
Research Background: One of the problems that often occur in the elderly is pain. Joint pain is a
problem that is often experienced by the elderly, so it can limit their movement. Rheumatoid arthritis or
rheumatism is a disease caused by an autoimmune reaction that occurs in the joint tissue. A decrease in
the function of the musculoskeletal system can lead to decreased flexibility in muscles and joints,
decreased cartilage function, reduced bone density and decreased muscle strength, which causes the
elderly to experience a decrease in daily physical activity.
Research purposes: Knowing whether there is a relationship between rheumatic pain intensity and
physical activity in the elderly at the Kalijaga Health Center, Cirebon City, 2021..
Method: Using a correlation design, using a cross sectional design, with a purposive sampling technique.
The number of samples is 74 respondents. The data were collected by using the NRS (Numeric Rating
Scale) and Barthel Index questionnaire which had been tested for validity and reliability. Technical
analysis using Pearson product moment correlation test.
Research results: Based on the results of the Pearson product moment correlation test, it was found that
p-value = 0.000 <a (0.05), which means that there is a relationship between rheumatic pain intensity and
physical activity in the elderly at the Kalijaga Health Center, Cirebon City, in 2021.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the intensity of rheumatic pain and physical
activity in the elderly at the Kalijaga Health Center, Cirebon City.
