Sentence Variety:
1. Simple sentence:
a. Subject + verb + object. / Subject + Verb.
b. Compound subject + verb + object.
c. Subject + verb + compound object.
d. Compound subject + verb + compound object.
e. Subject + compound verb + object.
f. Compound Subject + compound verb + object.
g. Subject + compound verb + compound object.
h. Compound Subject + compound verb + compound object.
Conjunctive adverb, + a/b/ …. h.
2. Compound sentence
fan boys/coordinating conjunctions/coordinators
Simple sentence, for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so + simple sentence.
Sharon didn’t understand the instructor’s point, so she asked him to repeat it.
Fred remembered to get the hamburger, but he forgot to get the hamburger rolls.
Fred remembered to get the hamburger; however, he forgot to get the
hamburger rolls.
2. Fred remembered to get the hamburger, but he forgot to get the hamburger
rolls.
Simple sentence; Simple sentence.
Simple sentence; conjunctive adverb, Simple sentence.
However, on the other hand, therefore, moreover, furthermore …etc.
3. Complex sentence
One or more subordinate clauses/dependent clauses + one main clause/simple
sentence.
Adjective clause/adverb clause/noun clause + one main clause/ simple
sentence.
1. The instructor is lowering my grade in the course because I was late three times for class.
2. When the airplane dropped a few feet, my stomach rose a few feet.
3. While the football was being played, we sent out for a pizza.
4. After the football game was over, we sent out for another pizza.
5. You should talk to a counselor before you decide on your courses for next semester.
4. Compound‐complex sentence
One or more subordinate clauses + one compound sentence.
