Design of
Irrigation Schemes
With EPANET
The objective of the project is to increase production of agriculture and
improve the living standard of farmers in the project area by constructing
pressurized irrigation system utilizing water resources efficiently and
ensure equitable assured water supply to the designed command area.

How it works Epanet software to the Irrigation

Distribution network is running with EPANET software. EPANET-2 performs
extended period simulation and behavior of hydraulic network consisting of
pipes, nodes (junctions), pumps, valves, storage tanks etc.
EPANET-2 tracks the flow of water in each pipe, the pressures at each node.
The software is developed by the Water Supply & Water Resources Division of United
States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) national risk management research
laboratory.

EPANET-2 contains state - of - art hydraulic analysis with the following

capabilities:

No limit for the size of pipes.

It computes head loss using Hazen-Williams formula.
Minor losses due to bends and other fittings are included.
Operation of the program is very simple and it gives the outputs in the
form of nodal pressures and flows in each pipe.
Learnt about the Flow in pipes using the programme on
Epanet.
Learnt to Prepare Work Programme for Irrigation Project.

The student learnt about generation of Epanet.

To understand and prepare monitoring of head calculations
based on ayacut.
