THE USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN
CONSTRUCTION
Currently, pollution is one of the main causes that threatens the survival of the human species.
Therefore, all industries are looking for ways to contribute to the conservation and protection
of the environment.
Since fossil and nuclear energy sources are finite, it is inevitable that at a certain moment the
demand cannot be supplied and the whole system collapses, unless other new methods of
obtaining energy are discovered and developed: these would be alternative energies.
An alternative energy source is one that can replace older energy sources. These alternative
energy sources either pollute less or are able to renew faster.
Construction companies are incorporating the use of these renewable energies in their
projects because they are not the inefficient and expensive technologies they were before.
In this paper we will discuss the use of solar and wind technologies in the construction sector.
Solar energy is the most notable and widespread renewable energy source. Solar-powered
construction is a relatively new but growing field. Construction companies are incorporating
solar technologies into their projects. Photovoltaic windows are translucent panels that absorb
the sun's energy and convert it into power. Using this form of renewable energy in a building
can provide 80% less greenhouse gas emissions than fossil fuels.
Wind energy is the energy obtained from wind power, by utilizing the kinetic energy generated
by air currents. It is obtained by means of wind turbines that convert the kinetic energy of
the wind into electrical energy by means of blades or propellers that turn a central shaft
connected, through a series of gears (the transmission) to an electrical generator. Wind power
is the fastest growing source of energy in the world, making it increasingly attractive to
construction companies. Although wind power is not as flexible as solar, it can help power
construction projects.
Wind power is also a cost-effective source of energy. When companies rely on this form of
renewable energy, they support wind farm owners and fund green practices across all sectors.
In conclusion, we should focus on using more renewable energies in the construction sector.
