Write a short reflection paper on the importance of being literate in the 21st
century.

A good foundation in literacy can be an important factor in building or succeeding

from one's career. A strong literacy foundation would be essential for the successful
development and presentation of a person. The effective use of digital literacy skills is
equally important in nonverbal communication. Long-distance communication by text or
email or online chatting can frequently result in misleading messages because
meanings are not always clearly visible. Digital literacy contributes to this by developing
contextual awareness through the use of both cognitive and technical skills. The 21 st
century is filled with new invented technologies and discoveries and to adapt to these
changes we need to practice these different literacies both new and old one

As an aspiring educator these different literacies will be an asset for us especially

this coming fourth year in college, practice teaching is just around the corner. Teaching
requires different literacies and being a member of the society also requires different
skills. This applies to all career paths, having these different competencies will serve as
a lifetime asset that will benefit us in different ways.
