ASSIGNMENT FOR MODULE 3, Lesson 1

ELECT 121-B (GENDER AND SOCIETY)

QUESTION:

Answer the following questions briefly:

1. If you ignore the behavior of sexual harassment, it will ultimately stop or go away?

In my own perspective, ignoring behavior of sexual harassment will not make it go away or
stop it ultimately. It will be just an act of tolerance. There will be other proper ways of preventing
this kind of scenario instead of ignoring it. As sexual harassment has been going on and on in our
society, I think, ignoring it made it worse. We must be able to create other ways to make this
behavior stop or to prevent it. Act of tolerance will simply mean letting it happen for another time
around.

2. How might sexual harassment relate to bullying?

Sexual harassment and bullying are comparable to each other as both behaviors could cause
suffering and trauma to the victims. Both behaviors exhibit unwelcome actions and
maltreatments to the victims. They both involve verbal and physical acts of intimidation and
harm. Bullying and sexual harassment are both problems, which our society is facing right now
and needs to be addressed as they cause a lifetime hardship for the victims.

3. What legal protection, if any, should exist to protect an innocent individual from false charges
of sexual harassment?

The innocent victim could get a lawyer that could help him or her to protect him or herself
from false charges or accusations of sexual harassment. These cases must go through a thorough
investigation in order to prove the side of the innocent. These scenarios have already happened
many times and are now solved easily because of their mastery in these cases. Every matter must
go through a legal process in order for the petition to be void. Most importantly, the falsely
charged person must have enough evidence to prove his innocence.
