POSITIVE SPACE: STRUCTURAL SCULPTURE

A building like a poligonal stripes with folded roofs runs through the plot area, bent several times
from north to south, adjusting to the site limits in order to free as much open space as possible. The
continuous rise of the roof line culminates in a vista point over the city in the highest point as a final
accentuation of the building volume, bringing back the old position of the medieval wall. We are
building a new perforated wall: the use of sandstone emphasizes the monolithic building sculpture. In
the divisible building stripe, all functions are separated accordingly with the different building phases.
NEGATIVE SPACE: THE COURTYARDS
The course of the building stripe reorganizes the site and creates open spaces linked through the
building shape:
1. A Kulturhof in the heart of the project. It is characterized by a spacious stair, which on the one
connects with the upper square, and functions as a central lounge area with seating steps. A large
wooden deck laid opposite functions as a stage for events.
2. A Biergarten that connects with Bad Staffelstein city centre.
All functional areas are accessible in the movement through the open spaces: the gastronomy and
hotel from the market square side, the beer museum via the inner Biergarten, the cultural center, the
Bürgercafe and the event halls via the Kulturhof, the direct marketers via the upper square.
