Aras asan is a barangay in the municipality of Cagwait located in Surigao del Sur which can be found in the Caraga Region of Mindanao. According to a Poverty Mapping in Surigao Del Sur 4 out of 100 households were living in a makeshift house among the highest percentage of these poor households is the municipality of Cagwait with a 7.8% where Aras asan is located. In the story of the Road to Aras asan it is clearly stated how the mother and the other passengers had a rough time throughout their journey. I believe this is because of poverty and lack of awareness. The way the author firstly experienced the place simply depicts on what is the real situation in Surigao del Sur. One of the statements that proved the poverty in Surigao del Sur is when the author said that “All that greeted my eyes was grinding poverty” describing the uneven roads and unstable houses. This work is raising a voice towards how poverty must not be overlooked as a factor towards the poor development of the city. One thing that I have also observed is the lack of awareness of the people in the place because according to the story tells a place away from civilization which tells that the people are deprived of their basic social needs such as education.
