Audio lingual. Work in pairs. Singing. Matching. skimming and scanning
Warm.up second lesson
Start the class with the following warm up activity:
• Put the flashcards for the lesson (son/grandson, daughter/ granddaughter, grandfather/ grandad,
grandmother/granny, uncle, aunt, cousin) in the 'mystery' bag.
• Play the CD (Track 18) and slowly pull out the flashcards as each word is heard. Hold up each
flashcard, say the word and practice saying loudly.
Ask students to open books on page 17 and look at activity 1 Vocabulary. NEW KNOWLEDGE
PRESENTATION
• Have Ss open their books to page 17.
• Point out the words in the vocabulary section. Play the CD a few times and have Ss point to the
corresponding pictures and repeat.
• Say the words again in random order and have Ss point and repeat.
Then move to Activity 2:
• Direct Ss' attention to the pictures and ask them what they depict (people thinking about their
families).
• Draw Ss' attention to the family members asking them what the woman, the old man and the
girl are thinking about, and then ask them to guess who they are.
• Hold up mybook, point to the mother thinking about the boy and the girl and say, She has got a
daughter. She has got a son. Encourage Ss to repeat.
Repeat for the rest of the people in the pictures, each time discussing their relation to the woman,
the old man or the girl.
• Explain to Ss that they are going to listen to a song with the title My family tree.
• Point out that they have to listen to the CD, follow along in their books and point to the correct
picture as they hear the family members being mentioned.
• Play the song again and encourage Ss to sing along.

Activity 3:
• Play the song again.
• Direct Ss' attention to the pictures and ask them to write the appropriate name in each box,
