Nasreddin and the Smell of Food

Scene 1
A boy is passing by a restaurant. He is very hungry, but he has no money. The boy
stops and smells the food.
Boy: What a good smell!
(The owner of the restaurant sees the boy and comes out.)
Owner: What are you doing?
Boy: Nothing. I’m hungry, but I have no money. So I’m just smelling the food.
Owner: Well, you must pay for the smell.
Boy: What? It’s only the smell!
Scene 2
Nasreddin sees the boy and the owner. He goes to the boy and helps him.
Nasreddin: Don’t worry, boy. I’ll pay for the food for you.
Owner: Great! Where’s the money?
Nasreddin: Do you want money? Well, here’s the money.
(Nasreddin takes out a bag of coins and shakes it. The coins clang*.)
Nasreddin: Do you hear the sound of the coins?
Owner: Yes, so?
Nasreddin: Well, that’s the money. I’m paying for the smell with the sound of the coins.
Owner: What?
