Prerana

Samman
Over the past two decades, remarkable progress has been made in expanding
access to education, but evidence suggests many children with disabilities are
still being left behind. Rising above lack of basic facilities in school and
colleges like accessibility, trained teachers and books in an alternate format
they have scored high percentage and today they are hope and inspiration for
the thousands of children with disabilities who drop out from school/college
regularly.

Prerana Samman is an effort of Swabhiman to recognize the hard work of

students with disabilities and celebrate their success in matriculation and plus
2 examinations. Its impact go a long way by making the students eligible for
applying to Anjali Scholarships, and thus reducing the financial burden of the
rising costs of a college education. Prerana Samman is one piece in the puzzle
of what creates a strong foundation for supporting students in their success.

Meritorious students who score above 60% marks are provided a certificate
and those above 75% marks receive cash awards. Those who score above 85%
are awarded gold medals as well. The lists are collected from District Social
Security Officers (DSSOs) and District Education Officers (DEOs) of respective
districts as well as from 30 Odisha State disAbility Network (OSdN) partners.
Further, the meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds who
pursue higher education are supported with a scholarship of rupees one
thousand. Swabhiman’s Circle of Friends, supports this endeavour. Deserving
and needy students are also supported with educational aids like books in
audio format, Braille books, laptops, scanners; and assistive devices.

Being a Prerana Awardee means the student has gone beyond the expectations of others. Being a Prerana Awardee takes
intelligence, confidence, and imagination. . Joining the honour roll of Prerana Awardees signifies that the student is not
only a top student in grades but has also demonstrated creativity, knowledge and maturity by succeeding in the multiple
interviews and sessions.
