History of Social Computing

 Social computing really began in the 1950s with "The Phone Phreaking Era.
 Bulletin Board System was built in 1979
 Commercial Online Services followed after BBSs
 After Commercial Online Services, the next event leading up to social computing was in
1991.
 The Internet became available and it was known as World Wide Web in mid-1990s.
 Internet Forums were starting to replace BBSs in the late 1990s

 In 1996 instant messaging (IM) system was created.

 In 1997 the first social networking website (SixDegrees) was created.
 And currently, the trends on the Web are moving towards what is known as "Location-
Based Social Web."
