Where does Halloween originate from?
Halloween originates from the Celtic people of Ireland in a Celtic holiday
known as Samhain, which derives from Old Irish and means "end of summer”. The holiday was celebrated in Ireland when the harvest season came to an end and the "Celtic New Year" began, coinciding with the autumn solstice. It was believed that during that night the spirits of the dead could walk among the living. The name Halloween is the contraction of the phrase All Hallow's Eve (eve of all saints).
