Lesson Idea
☒ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
introduced by me showing them the eBook I created, and students will be aware of their goal
by me providing oral instructions on the activity. Students will utilize technology by recording
their voices describing their favorite holiday with the help of the teachers. I will provide
feedback by going over the book with the whole class. This lesson will be concluded by having
the students talk about what holiday they like as a class.
Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? Students will be given 20 minutes to draw
their pictures and to think about what they will say about them. Students will start their
audio recording with “My favorite holiday is _ _ _ _ because…”
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The PowerPoint eBook activity will support and
enhance students learning giving them a creative way to implement what they have learned
instead of doing it by hand on paper. This activity supports the Universal Design for Learning
principal Action and Expression by giving the students the option to describe their favorite
holiday using a audio recording instead of just writing it out on paper.
