Course Description

This course deals with the intensive practical and theoretical training in the different sections
in the clinical laboratory of affiliating hospitals namely: Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microscopy and
Parasitology, Microbiology, Hematology, Blood Banking, Histopathologic Technique and Cytology,
Immunology and Serology under the supervision of a licensed Medical Technologist of each section.
It provides the training for the development of Medical Technologist who possesses the knowledge,
technical skills and attitude to perform scientific laboratory investigation in aid of diagnosis, treatment
and research required in health care delivery in the country and the global community.

Course Objectives

After completing this course, the students must be able to:

1. Collect, handle and process biological specimens properly and safely


2. Perform laboratory testing accurately through the use of appropriate techniques, skills, and
technology
3. Monitor testing procedures, equipment, data and professional and technical competency
using quality assurance methodologies and laboratory management skills
4. Operate instruments properly and perform preventive and corrective maintenance. Use
computers and laboratory software competently
5. Relate research in health promotion through experimental, descriptive or
epidemiological studies.
6. Practice professionalism, work effectively with patients, peers and with multi-disciplinary and
multi-cultural teams

7. Manifest the following values: Honesty, Critical Thinking, Value for life; Concern for others,
Resourcefulness, Perseverance, Patience and Diligence.

All modules, reading materials and other open educational resources will be available in the
course site (Google Classroom) on or before the scheduled session. You can access these
resources at your convenient time.

Course Requirements

For this course you need to perform 5 practical exams and 2 activities.

The grading system that will be used is:

a. Virtual Internship /Skills Enhancement


i. 50% - Virtual (EAC)
ii. 50% - Skill Enhancement
1. Attendance / Participation – 25%
2. Return Demonstration / Moving Exam/ Quiz – 25%

The passing score is 70% and that is equivalent to 3.0. Refer to the standard transmutation table
below.

Course Policies

1. Your clinical instructor will ask you to download and read the attached learning guide for
reference. The downloaded learning guide will serve as the course work plan for the entire 18
weeks. Once you received and fully understand the attached file, you are required to
Comment/Write your FULL NAME (Surname, First Name, MI), your student number and
DATE when the file was downloaded as an acknowledgement on the platform the file was
uploaded.

2. At the start of the semester, you will be asked to sign an Honor Pledge as an oath to your
honest commitment and participation in the flexible learning arrangement to be employed by
the University this Semester.

3. This course will employ Flexible learning. Majority will be conducted in face to face set up,
and the rest will be virtual.

4. Most virtual classes time will be used to assist the instructors in Virtual internship for the
monitoring and checking of the students output, This time will also be given to accomplish
some of the virtual internship activities.

5. During Face-to-face sessions, the students shall wear proper attire (White uniform and Black
shoes)

6. During Virtual sessions, students are expected to wear decent attire

7. The primary online platform to be used is Google Classroom. If possible, secure a CvSU
email address; nonetheless, any valid Google Mail account may be allowed. Facebook
Messenger will be utilized for sending urgent announcements. Synchronous classes will make
use of Zoom, Google Meet, and other video conferencing platforms.

8. As a student at Cavite State University, you are expected to uphold the university tenets of
truth, excellence and service. Thus, you must practice academic integrity through the entire
duration of the course, which will be attested by your honesty pledge to be submitted in the
first week of classes and before major examinations.

9. In connection with no. 9, cheating during assignments, activities, quizzes, and exams are
strictly prohibited. Making copies of any questions from the said activities in any form are also

forbidden. Dissemination of any materials received for this course to anyone not enrolled in
this course is likewise NOT allowed. Any such circumstances shall be dealt with accordingly
by the instructors and the administrators.

10. The University’s Grading System shall be followed as appropriate for this flexible learning
arrangement.

11. Majority of the activities that will be held face to face will be graded as return demonstration,
since it is already part of the students’ previous subjects

12. The faculty will implement strict guideline for waste segregation that will be further discuss on
the student’s orientation (Punishment for those who will disobey must be expected)
