A PRECIOUS GEM OF A TEACHER’S ACT

Education is not something that can be quantified with tests or report cards,
instead something that people carry with them. It is a survival pack for life and is an
essential part of personal development which will be better equipped in certain
areas. It is for students to grow as individuals by learning different aspects of the
world in which they live and their way of living.
Teaching is a profession, mission, and vision which allows one to influence
individual’s lives. When I was still a Practice Teacher, I have several objectives and
desired outcomes that guide my choice of pedagogy. My perspective on teaching is
aimed toward giving a greater sense of confidence and self-esteem. As time passed
by, as a teacher of Saint Andrew Academy of Bacarra Inc., I can now make my
vision, mission, and goal into a reality. In terms of my exemplary and extraordinary
acts, for almost 20 students who voluntarily came to my office, I fully realized that
they had a lot of burdens that needs to express to prevent depression that will affect
their academic performance. As a Guidance Counselor, I ought to be a shoulder to
cry on and an ear to listen to everyone’s problems which leads to an emphasis on
relationships and a genuine interest in each student. I know that I cannot solve every
problem of the students, especially outside the school. I can only make the student
forget their problem but at the end of the day, the problem is still there, and students
still need to face the reality. The only thing that I can do is to see and reflect what our
student’s problems. In this regard, I can help by addressing the problem and
contributing an answer to their problems. No matter how little the contribution that I
can give just to solve my student’s problems, I know that it will mean a lot to the
student. Every little thing counts especially when the students will feel that they are
being heard and accepted despite their situations and standing in life. Teaching is a
challenge and a joy. It is also a lifelong process of reflecting and making necessary
adjustments. To be a good, inspiring, and effective teacher, I am very excited about
the opportunity to be a part of the lives of students as they grow holistically. It is a
great joy and privilege to impact the lives of children in these ways. In terms of
innovative ideas, my teaching philosophy is that “teaching students with
reinforcements in a conducive classroom environment”. I created a classroom
atmosphere that is welcoming and accessible. A place where the students feel
comfortable coming and feel a sense of belongingness. The classroom walls are
interesting and usefully decorated with bulletin boards for displaying examples of
students’ work and interesting information and filled with inspirational and
motivational quotations that will make the classroom attractive and engaging. I
believe that a conducive environment can help the learners to listen, participate, and
be productive in class. In my discoveries and interventions, I witnessed that ICT
affected the educational area as a major contributor to building nations and as a
motivating power for change. Nowadays, the Nations' success and even survival are
now tied to the ability to gain a good quality of learning. Thus, there is a need to think
deeply about dealing with learning tools that are different but consistent with modern
technologies. With the abrupt onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and an immediate
shift in the teaching and learning process, addressing the problem of student
engagement in a classroom has become more challenging, yet I discovered that the
use of Creative PowerPoint presentation with a game-based activity and its catchy
gifs, images, attached videos can encourage students to learn, listen and participate
in class. In my heroic deeds and acts of service, I used some teaching
methodologies, and ought to inspire them to express their ideas and views so that
they can get to know one other better, and I need to motivate the low achievers to be
more involved in class since I know they have the ideas they want to discuss. I take
note that we are all autonomous beings who have individual differences. This can be
the key in having an assurance that students will accept, love, and support their
classmates in all aspects holistically.
A feeling of protection and well-being is fostered by cultivating a sense of
belonging among the students. This will be a catalyst or substance that enables to
invigorate and animate humans’ desire, commitment, capacity and ability to become
morally fit and to uplift the sense of belongingness just like what Saint Andrew
Academy of Bacarra Inc. showcased inclusivity to address the learners’ different
ability.
