We know that our disciplines were established to help us believe in our faith, to lead us

into a deeper spirituality. Discipline is not part of the sin nature, but is a natural

component of the Christian life. In fact, almost nothing of importance in our lives can be

done without discipline, they can be described as those behaviors that increase our

growth and allow us to move towards spiritual maturity. The spiritual disciplines help us

in the growth of the soul, since no one can have a true development without the support

of these disciplines.

I believe that our life should have the disciplines as a fundamental pillar, since without

them we are not capable of advancing, we can compare the life of a Christian with a

ladder, we all start from the ground, we know that we need to reach the top, where life is

eternal and spiritual blessings from God for our life, but we must climb each step and in

order to reach the next level we need to have a life of discipline, this process of growth

and spiritual development begins to take place at the moment in which he has an

encounter with the risen Christ and comes to him for salvation.

We can classify them in three ways, Interior, Exterior and Collective.

When we talk about inner discipline, we refer to meditation, the writer Gary Teja tells us

that when reading a passage from the Bible we must meditate, the reason is that by

meditating on the passage we can hear the voice of God, we are willing to receiving the

teaching, we let go of the rest to be only the word of God and we, in doing so, a word or

phrase may captivate our attention.

The discipline of Prayer is commonly the one we use the most in our daily lives. It is

communication, in which we talk to God and listen. As a last point of the Internal
disciplines, we will talk about Fasting, we can ask ourselves is the experience of

abstaining in a willing to eat or satisfy some other appetite, to make room for God in our

lives. Matthew 4:1-4 Jesus fasted for forty days and nights "also known as absolute

fasting" the purpose of fasting is to strengthen our spirit, be in communication with God

and make us more sensitive to the holy spirit.

As a discipline, fasting is a physical and spiritual act, it helps us in our communion with

God and it is important to remember that fasting goes hand in hand with prayer. Today

fasting is not just for Christians, doctors recommend intermittent fasting for its benefits, it

helps reduce anxiety, inflammation markers and blood triglycerides.

In the same way we can see the disciplines from the outside, these disciplines are

notorious for others, they are attitudes or behaviors that we can acquire through a life of

discipline next to God.

Number one is simplicity, Ecclesiastes 7:29 tells us that God created us in order to be

upright before him, but that we have lost our way, the Bible tells us that we must be

simple, Proverbs 23:4- 5 exhorts us not to worry about the riches of this world, because

they are like eagles, they open their wings and fly away. We must not put aside

simplicity and be guided by vanity, this discipline will help us a lot "my dad always told

me that simplicity, humility and service open doors to anyone who practices them."

The discipline of the Retreat exhorts us to set aside a time of prayer alone with God,

Luke 6:12 tells us that Jesus spent the night praying to God alone, he needed silence

"The purpose of silence and retreat is to be able to see and hear" this refers to the word
of God. In this discipline we see the importance of the retreat, it is an appointment alone

with the father. Later we will talk about the Collective disciplines in more depth
