Week 1

Day 1

This is the official start of my OJT Journey. My fellow intern, Marc Nathaniel Diaz,
immediately reported to the College of Engineering (COE), after being rejected by a
company to which we applied first. Then, we went to Teatro Ilocandia. Upon arriving,
we met our supervisor, Engr. Wilson R. Duldulao. He introduced to us the basics of
sound engineering, how sound technicians work in a workplace, and troubleshoot
various technical difficulties during an event. After lunch, we proceeded to Covered
Court to witness a graduation ceremony. There, we continued to observe them operate.
The ceremony went well and we were dismissed after that.

Day 2

We arrived at around 6:52 am at COE. We were instructed by the ECE Department Chair
to arrange and clean the classrooms near the ECE Department. After that, we waited for
another set of work to be done. However, it was unfortunate that our supervisor, Engr.
Duldulao tested positive for his antigen test. We were told to go home immediately.

Day 3

It was the 5S day of university. Our Department Chair divided us into three groups.
Marc, Mark, Franz, and I were tasked to clean up the old faculty room. We also arranged
the books and stuff to achieve aesthetic vibes. After that, we packed up and went home.

Day 4

Last day of the week. I arrived at COE at around 6:00 am. We started the day with good
news. Engr. Duldulao tested negative for his RTPCR Test. However, he was advised to
quarantine himself for 5 days. We did not do much due to that. Thus, we decided to just
plan on what to do next week and propose some project ideas to be finished at a certain
time.

Week 2

Day 5
I arrived at around 7 am. We were so glad that our supervisor got back from quarantine.
Our group proceeded to go to the Sunken Garden. The graduates practice for their
graduation ceremony. While witnessing them doing that, we observed how the sound
system works in that area. In addition, our supervisor taught us the proper grounding of
the amplifiers and other stuff related to the proper handling of that equipment.

Day 6

I arrived earlier than yesterday. Upon arriving, we were instructed to create and
assemble an additional powerpack. Juness, Brenz, Franz and I acted quickly to take up
this challenge. But first, our supervisor oriented us and discussed the schematic diagram
of a power pack. We did not get it at first. We’ve had a hard time soldering, attaching,
and finishing this project. It was already evening when we encountered some problems.
There were some parts that were not suitable that’s why we just left it out there before
we went home. However, we packed up everything so that we could secure each and
every piece of equipment.

Day 7

Our supervisor tested the ones we’ve assembled. Unfortunately, there were still errors
but we managed to solve them all. We proceeded to Teatro Ilocandia to bring some
speakers to the covered court. We disassembled and swapped some defective parts. We
also tested the sound system. We made sure that everything was working fine.

Day 8

This was supposed to be the last day of duty of the week but we still need to go the next
day for the Graduation Ceremony. I arrived at the covered court at around 7 am. We
finalized everything—from the lighting system to the sound system we’ve set up
yesterday. The program started at around 1:30 pm. Everything went well. However, I
went home early because there was an emergency that I should attend to.

Day 9

I arrived at exactly 7 am at the covered court for the Baccalaureate Program and
Hooding ceremony. The guards were so strict that there were only specific ways to go
inside the program area. We witnessed the proper operation of the sound system
during a gallant program. Thankfully, there were no technical difficulties. After that, we
immediately went to the sunken garden to prepare for the graduation ceremony. We
finished setting up everything. We even tested every one of the microphones to be used
by the speakers. The program started when we played the grand march. During the
ceremony, we tweaked a lot of things. From defective microphones to the loose
connections of the speakers due to the audience’s footsteps. We were fortunate
enough because it did not rain hard. It just drizzled. Because I live far, I went home at
around 7:40 pm.

Week 3

Day 10

I arrived at COE at around 7 am. We proceeded to Sunken Garden again to wrap and
pack up all the sound systems used during the graduation ceremony. We went back to
COE at 1:00 PM.

DAY 11

I arrived at COE at around 7 am. We transferred and fixed the speakers used during the
graduation ceremony.

Day 12

On this day, we did not do much. Instead of doing nothing, we planned on setting up the
network system that we are going to install at COE. The three departments which we
will install are the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) Department, Electrical
Engineering (EE) Department, and Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department.

Day 13

This day was the same as yesterday. We did not do much again. However, we started to
procure the materials and plan the procurement of equipment which we are going to
use for the installation of the network system.

Week 4

Day 14

I arrived at COE at around 7 am. We immediately proceeded to the Mechanical

Engineering Department to check the tools and equipment we will use during that day.
Even though we lacked 2 of the ladders we requested, we doubled our time to put up
the fiber optic cable. However, we still could not finish it up because we cannot secure
the cables properly without the use of a metallic cable tie. After that, engr. Pricilla Faye
Simon let us go home because the materials were not available locally.
Day 15

Just like yesterday, I arrived at the same time and location. After knowing that we’re
going to Carasi for an inspection for the antennas to be used for their radio station, I
immediately called up Marc, Mark, and Franz to accompany our faculty to go there too.
We arrived at around 10:05 am. We saw how passionate our supervisor was in his work
by demonstrating his expertise in radio communication systems. He even showed us
how to check if the antenna is working properly or in a critical state. After all of that, we
went back to COE.

Day 16

It was a typical day. I arrived at the same time and location. However, while waiting for
our fellow interns, a powerful earthquake occurred. We were left in shock because
there were some cracks in the COE building. After going out, our supervisor instructed
us not to back inside the building anymore as it was still being inspected and not yet
cleared for occupation. The university was temporarily closed. After that, our ECE
Department teachers told us to go home immediately.

Day 17

Upon arriving in Batac City, we were told to go home again because of the suspension of
classes since the day the earthquake occurred was still in effect.

Week 5

Day 18

The aftermath of the earthquake was still evident as we were still feeling the
aftershocks. I arrived at COE at around 7 am. When we saw Engr. Duldulao, he invited us
to accompany him to the new building of COE. There he presented us with the newly
installed Fire Detection and Alarm Systems “FDAS”. He demonstrated the function of
this system and showed us the correct way how to use it. We went back to COE to
continue working on the fiber optic cable.

Day 19

Engr. Duldulao instructed us to just go to the College of Teacher Education. I and my

fellow interns arrived at around 7 am. However, some of his (Engr. Duldulao) fellow
inspectors took too long to go to the college which we were going to inspect. That’s why
he told us to go to the Carmelite Monastery to see his solar project. There he showed us
the basics of solar power generation including proper using of cables and tubes. Upon
knowing that his fellow inspectors are near the CTE, we went back. We inspected the
FDAS which was the same with the ones installed at the new COE building. We searched
for missing sensors and checked if they were working too. After that, we went to the
College of Industrial Technology to inspect theirs too. Of course, there were some
changes and found out that there were also missing pieces that’s why we noted on the
floor plan the updated placement of the FDAS. We went back at COE at around 3 pm.
We again continued working on the fiber optic cable on the three departments—ABE,
ME and EE.

Day 20

I arrived at COE at around 7 am. After which, we were given a new set of tasks—to
create a ladder on a pole. But first, we were oriented on the proper use of the tools that
were used. Then we proceeded with the bending of the metals that were attached to
the pole. It was challenging but at least we obtained some skills. To finish the pole, we
painted a primer so that it won’t rust easily.

Day 21

I arrived at the same location and time. We did not do much during that day. We just
arranged the chairs inside the classrooms. Our supervisor was on leave due to sickness.

Day 22

I arrived at the COE at around 7 am. We immediately reported to Engr. Duldulao at the
Mechatronics Center. We also went to the CAB (Communication Arts Building) to
inspect the newly installed FDAS together with our beloved supervisor. We then went to
the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) DOST to tune up the FG-22
antennas. These will be installed on the selected barangays at Carasi, Ilocos Norte. We
learned how to measure the SWR and if the antenna is in a critical state. We also
checked if the radios and power supply are working. Everything went well and we went
home on a rainy afternoon.

Day 23

This was the day when we went to Carasi to finally install the tuned antennas and
radios. First, we installed the antenna in the Barangay Hall at Brgy. Angset. In addition, I
learned how to use the hammer drill and impact drill properly. After that, we proceeded
to Brgy. Virabis. However, the rain poured. That’s why we had a hard time finishing and
we knew that we still could not put the antenna up due to the weather.

Day 24
We did not do much on that day. Instead of doing nothing, we just started doing our
paper works for the terminal report. In the afternoon, my fellow interns trained Engr.
Freggie Gaile Pagador, Engr. Christian Philip Austria and Engr. Julie Ailenne Asuncion-
Garcia how to splice a fiber optic cable.

Day 25

This is the last day of my OJT journey. We continued doing our terminal report at COE.

Arnold Battulayan
Daily Journal

July 4, 2022 - Although our first day was exhausting, we learned a lot. We participated in
the morning's college flag ceremony before being met by our instructor Engineer
Duldulao. He briefed us on our objectives for the day and explained some fundamentals
of sound systems. We went to the school's theater after orientation to see and observe
the sound system operators. We went to the covered court in the afternoon to observe
them as well.

July 5, 2022- It was a blast on day two. In our school, we did a 5s, and we inventoried
both our lab and the old faculty.

July 6, 2022 - Our third day was shocking because we were third degree contacts
because our Instructor Engineer Duldulao tested positive for Covid. To ensure our
safety, our teachers permitted us to leave earlier than usual.

July 7, 2022- We were happy to hear that our Instructor finally tested negative via an
RT/PCR on the fourth day. We made plans for the next days because our instructor still
needed to be isolated for five days. And in the afternoon, we gave Engineer Ruiz our
project proposal.

July 11, 2022- on the fifth day, we visited the Sunken Garden to see how to set up and
fix various sound system apparatus.

July 12, 2022- this day was very exhausting. To set up the sound systems for the
graduation ceremony, we walked to the covered court. We evaluated each system and
fixed any issues.

July 13, 2022- The sound system setup is currently being worked on.
July 14, 2022- the eight day was less difficult because all we did was watch our
instructor Engineer Duldulao utilize the sound system. We put more speakers and
continued troubleshooting the speakers in the sunken garden in the afternoon.

July 15, 2022- Today was definitely tiring. We attended the baccalaureate mass in the
covered court before moving on to the sunken garden for the graduation ceremony

July 18, 2022- The speakers in the sunken garden that was used for the graduation
ceremony were removed

July 19, 2022- On the eleventh day, we fixed some speakers. We replaced some
recently purchased speakers for some worn-out older ones.

July 20, 2022- On the twelfth day, we organized and cleaned our rooms.

July 21,2022- Thirteenth day was spent planning the installation of the fiber cable
through the ABE, EE, and ME.

July 25, 2022- The installation of the fiber lines leading to the ABE, EE, ME, and the
Dean's office began.

July 26, 2022- On the fifteenth day, we continued installing fiber.

July 27, 2022- The sixteenth day was a terrifying day. Because of the earthquake, we had
to stop working.

July 28, 2022- On the seventeenth day, our professors sent us home since the university
had stopped all work for the safety of the staff and students.
August 1, 2022 - On the eighteenth day, we went to the new engineering building where
our instructor lectured over the purposes and operations of the FDAS before we carried
on with the fiber installation in the late afternoon.

August 2, 2022- nineteenth day, we traveled to the Laoag Campus to inspect FDAS in the
CTE and CIT before continuing our fiber installation that afternoon.

August 3, 2022- On the 20th day, it was memorable. For the Carasi project, we were
tasked with building a ladder and an antenna pole.

August 4, 2022- on day 21, we continued working on installing fiber in EE, ABE and ME
Department

August 8, 2022 - Twenty second day, we are tasked to made some LAN cables for our
fiber installation project while the other group went to the Carasi site.

August 10, 2022 - On the twenty third day, we finished installing our fiber and then we
striped the fiber and connected it in the deans office. We also tested and
troubleshooted it.
Ramil D. Dato
Daily Journal

July 4, 2022 - First day was the earliest. Waking up at 5AM and wrapping things up. Well,
first impressions kinda matter so being early the first day is a must.
Attended the flag ceremony and after that, met with our internship adviser. Discussed
the basics and rules under him and immediately went to Theatro Ilocandia. Upon
arriving there, Engr. Duldulao discussed some basic ideas about sound proofing while
observing how the sound system technicians do their job.

July 5, 2022 - Attended the 5S program at the COE. It was fun since while doing school
chores, we the interns share thoughts and ideas about how our internship will progress.

July 6, 2022 - Our adviser didnt come on site. So, we interns hang around a bit. Then our
department chair told us to go home early since Engr. Duldulao can’t guide us today.
She said it's because Engr. Duldulao's son tested positive in his anti-gen test for COVID.
For sure, it was for our safety.

July 7, 2022 - Good news! Engr. Duldulao tested negative in his RT/PCR test.
But setting that good news aside, we interns made an official plan to organize our
activities and to do lists for the rest of the months.

July 11, 2022 - Headed at the historical Sunken Garden, where great rewards are given
to those who deserve it. Observed how technicians set speakers up, and how they
operate. Engr. Duldulao gave us a demo on how to use the sound mixer.

July 12, 2022 - Set things up for the awarding ceremony. We tested the speakers for
errors, and if there are, we disassemble the said speakers and test the speaker's
components to detect which component is not working. This was a very tiring day.
July 13, 2022 - Did a dry run for the speakers to see if the set up yesterday is still
working. Then again, soldered some connectors and tested the speakers again.

July 14, 2022 - Observed how Engr. Duldulao operates the sound mixer. We interns are
all on site, standing-by. Waiting for commands, if ever one of the speakers’
malfunctions, we can immediately fix it.
After the program, we went to the Sunken Garden, and again, we finalized the set up for
the big event tomorrow.

July 15, 2022 - You can say this date is the day for the victorious. First, we attended the
baccalaureate mass and as technicians, we again stood by at the site, waiting for
command.
Then after the mass, we went to the Sunken Garden, then set the things up for the
graduation ceremony. The set up was doing fine until there was a point in time where
the mics malfunctioned. It's a struggle but us interns did everything under Engr.
Duldulao's command fixed the issue on the mics.

July 19, 2022 - Changed the old speakers and replaced it with the new ones.

July 20, 2022 - We were tasked to clean the laboratory room where we were always
working.

July 21, 2022 - Engr. Faye Simon led the plan for the installation of fibre optic cables at
different departments. Mainly the ME, EE and ABE departments.

July 26, 2022 - Working on fiber optics installation.

July 27, 2022 - It seems like just a normal day to go to the workplace. Wrap my things
up, but when I was leaving my dormitory, a strong earthquake shook the ground. Didn't
attempt to go to the workplace that day.
July 28, 2022 - Upon arriving at the school, we were sent home immediately. They said
that the building should be checked first if it is safe.

August 1, 2022 - Spent the first half of the day at the new engineering buildings. Engr.
Duldulao discussed how the FDAS (Fire Detection and Alarm System) works. He also
discussed other things like how the wirings in the new building looks like.
The second half of the day was spent on the installation of fiber optic connection at the
said departments.

August 2, 2022 - Wrapped up early and went to Laoag. Like the other day, we checked
the FDAS of the two campuses, CIT and CTE.
Went for a side trip at the hotel where Engr. Duldulao is involved in a solar panel
project. Discussed a little bit about the solar panel installations.
Then again, spent the rest of the day on the fiber optics installation.

August 3, 2022 - This is the day where we test our skills in the mechanical side. Engr.
Duldulao assigned the team to make an antenna pole.
It was a great experience for me personally when I tried using the angle grinder to swipe
off the welding residue. Seeing the sparks fly from the steel that I'm cutting is kind of
satisfying.

August 4, 2022 - Continued the installation of fiber optics.

August 8, 2022 - The group is divided into two. My group made the LAN cables for the
fibre optics installation project. The other group went to Carasi.

August 9, 2022 - Ablan Day (Holiday)

August 10, 2022 - This day is kind of a crucial day. We finished the installation of the
fiber optic cables. The crucial part is when we crimp the fiber optics
August 11, 2022 - Just a normal day for us interns. Not much of an activity. Some of us
taught the other faculty members on how to crimp a fiber optic cable. It was fun since it
is a way to closer to our instructors. The vibe is so good that it feels like our positions in
the school doesn't matter.

August 15, 2022 -Extension of my internship since I'm absent for quite a few days. In the
first half of the day, we accompanied Engr. Faye Simon troubleshooting the internet
connection, with regards to the fiber optics that we installed.
In the afternoon, Engr. Duldulao gave us this problem to be solved that relates to the
project tomorrow. After solving, others have worked on the angle bars which will be
used for tomorrow. I, on the other hand together with Cyril John went to hardware
stores to buy guy wire and turnbuckle.

August 16, 2022 - Woke up early and went to school. We waited for Engr. Duldulao and
pack our things up, together with the materials that will be used to set up the antenna.
Drilling here, drilling there, climbing here climbing there. Twisting and cutting the wires.
That so much work is kind of exhausting. But it was fun and I learned so much.
The fact that I climbed the antenna post, which is high from the ground level, it is so
much fun when I'm at the top of the antenna post.

August 17, 2022 - Last day of my extension. We've done the final checking of the
internet status of the departments that we installed the fiber optics with. After that, we
fixed some miscellaneous things at the IECEP department.

6:30 in the morning when we arrived at the school with my fellow OJT mates.

Supposedly, the flag ceremony will start at 7 am. However, the teachers are late and our

patience is being tested at that time. And when the flag ceremony started, all of the

faculty members attended with the big screen used on zoom meeting to livestream the

Today is the day, student that fulfilled their dreams. Supposedly, it is our day off, but we

volunteered to go. There was a small problem but the impact is so big. The microphone

is not working and we need to act fast to resolve it, but we couldn't really know because

we are still learning, and after that, we encountered the same problem again and that

time, Engr. Duldulao is not present, and I volunteered to go in front to fix it. Sadly, the

Graduates stepped on the wires and I quickly identified it. It was so tiring, because we

did an overtime.

July 18, 2022

Third week, first day. My four colleagues went to NBERIC which makes us only eight

remaining. And this day, we detach all the sound system in sunken garden.
