This document describes a tool for automatically measuring fetal biometric parameters from ultrasound images. The tool can detect and analyze fetal anatomy and measure parameters like abdominal circumference (AC) and bi-parietal diameter (BPD). It uses edge detection filters on regions of interest to precisely measure diameters and circumferences. The tool was tested on 25 fetal ultrasound images, measuring the AC 5 times each. The results showed little variation between measurements of the same image, indicating the tool provides consistent, accurate measurements of this difficult biometric parameter in a time-efficient manner with reduced error compared to manual measurements. Automating fetal biometry analysis in this way can help obstetricians and be useful in prenatal care.

Master of Engineering in Medical Electronics, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, College of Engineering Guindy, Chennai-25 displayed as Pixels/cm, (ie) the total value of pixel collected will It consist of pixel calibration value mentioned as 75 Pixels/cm. The ABSTRACT be considered as 1 cm. Then the ROI is initiated by drawing a straight single pixel value will differ from images. To measure the Fetal Biometry Parameter the special line covering the Circumference Diameter. From the cropped ROI the REGION OF INTEREST SELCTION measurement tool is developed. It can also detect, analyzing Pixel values are arranged as a 2 Dimensional Array. Using a organ structure and measure the parameters in fetal body. The specifically constructed filter, we attempt to locate the edges. Draw Major axis and minor axis covering the goal of this research is to use Ultrasound pictures to discover and circumference of Ultrasound images. Then get four Region of To achieve the sharp edge contouring, the developed filter is used. At Interest ,to perform Edge detection filter. assess fetal characteristics like AC (Abdominal Circumference) Once the Line is drawn, the system will filter the Edges and The edge detection filter works for detecting the accurate edges. The and BPD (Bi-parietal Diameter). This tool is used to for make Edge Contouring to detect the Diameter. The Measurement tool filter will cover each and pixel intensity value to have a better analysis, that is time-consuming and is commonly used in module is designed to measure Abdominal Circumference (AC). measurement tool. After filtering the value of both the axis are obstetrics and gynaecology for fetal biometry. Because mentioned. ultrasound pictures are patient-specific, operator-dependent, and RESULT AND DISCUSSION machine-specific, automated ultrasound image analysis is The fetal ultrasound image which is preprocessed, and loaded Figure 4 Four ROI Selected Image with Major axis and Minor axis difficult. There are many Fetal biometry is required to measure into the front panel of the Tool. for fetal analysis, The abdominal circumference (AC) is one of the most difficult forms of foetal biometry to conduct because of MEASUREMENT TOOL the poor contrast against the surroundings, non-uniform contrast, Click Measurement tool, with the help of Major axis and minor axis and uneven shape. Hence the automation in fetal Biometry value the circumference value is calculated in a single click. measurement for Abdominal Circumference is the main moto of this study. Thus the Ultrasonography measurement tool is proposed. METHODOLOGY The block diagram of the proposed work is shown in Figure 1.

Click Calibration icon, to calibrate the ultrasound image pixels. We have to select the Rectangular column cropped image for Figure 6 : Fetal Ultrasound image with AC Measurement calibration.Step 1 - At once it is selected followed by double click the tool will pop up a confirmation message (Fig 7.3).Step 2 - Once The Abdominal Circumference is measured in this input image it’s confirmed the Calibration tool works out and gives the Pixels as 15.44 cm. Thus the AC values can be measured only with the Fetal value as “1cm. ultrasound images as a Post Processing. The Analysis of AC measurement is made for each and every result, by implementing the same measurement tool for 5 times each in 25 different fetal input images from Data set. The result obtained by testing the tool is shown, which states that for Figure 1. Block diagram for Proposed work every trails the value are considered as same and only little variation for The fetal ultrasound images will be collected as DICOM format each trails is observed. and converted into JPEG format to implement the image processing technique. The calibration module is designed to convert the required CONCLUSION area to be measure from pixel in to cm. Here the Edge Detection Filter is used, which functions within the cropped image and detect two points as the Edges within the same column. Followed by collecting “All pixels value” within the filtered area. The Value is Figure 3 : Calibrated Image Thus, the Fetal biometry- Abdominal Circumference is measured from Fetal Ultrasound Images. A Specially designed Filter is evaluated by the help of Data set. Comparing with the readymade filters, this filter is compatible or all ultrasound images with sharp edge contouring, there is approximately same value obtained for every trail, so there is no different values for each trail, which is considered as a major flaw in mannuall measurement. Moreover, it is an easy tool to have multiple image measurement in a very less time which also reduce the error rate. The future work would be the proposed algorithm encoded with completed automated .
