ACTIVITY NO.4
Identification of Microorganisms
As they exist in nature, most bacteria are colorless, transparent, and difficult to see.
Therefore, various staining methods have been devised to enable scientists to examine
bacteria. Microorganisms are transparent or semitransparent hence difficult to see in
unstained state due to very little contrast obtained between their cells and surrounding
medium. When they are stained is increased as the become opaque and contrast
between them and surrounding medium remains transparent. The result is that they
become visible,
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the activity the student would be able to be able to
1. learn the following
a. types of staining
b. common microscopic methods
2. identify the serological test for diagnosing infection and identification of causative
agent.
ILLUSTRATION
1. Draw and label the simple bacterial staining technique.
2. Draw the steps of the Gram Staining Methods
