there. They must only find it.

One Year ago: Dogs Smell Cancer

Dogs have very good noses. They can smell cancer. Italian scientists train dogs to smell prostate cancer. One dog
is even faster than a team of doctors. He finds the cancer faster than them!
The scientists do not want to use dogs in hospitals. They want to make an electronic tool. This tool would work like
a dog’s nose.

Argentina grows special wheat

Farmers in Argentina are testing a new type of wheat. This wheat is genetically modified. This type of science
changes some information inside a plant. The change makes a new plant.
The new wheat is called HB4. It can grow with little rain. It is very important. Big droughts are happening in the
world.
Ukraine is one of the biggest growers of wheat in the world. A war starts in Ukraine with Russia. Then Ukraine can’t
sell its wheat. Many countries need wheat to make food.
The new wheat can grow in other parts of the world. It can grow in unusual places.
Some people worry. They say that the new wheat will mix with other wheat. The new wheat can contaminate the
other wheat stock. It can make a bad problem for Argentina’s business.

Titanosaur in New York

Titanosaurs lived 100 million years ago. They lived in Argentina. They ate plants. They were 70 tonnes heavy. That
is like ten elephants. People find a titanosaur. They move it to New York. The dinosaur goes into a museum.
It is in a hall. It is longer than the hall. It does not fit inside completely. Its neck and its head run through
the doorway into another room. Every year, five million people visit this museum.
Building falls in Jordan
A building collapses in Jordan. It happens in the capital city of Amman. The place is very popular. Many cafes,
restaurants and places for people are there.
The building has four stories. People live inside. Many people are at home when the event happens.  People say
that the floor suddenly breaks under their feet. More than 10 people die. Rescuers expect that more people will die.
Rescuers save a four-month-old boy. He is not hurt. His mother is very happy. She gives out sweets in front of a
hospital.
Police don’t know yet why the building collapses. They arrest three people. One of them is the owner of the
building.

People want their money

This news is about an economic crisis in Lebanon. The crisis starts three years ago.
People keep their savings in banks. The government says that people cannot get all their money from their
accounts. They can get only some money. This is the only way to stop the collapse of the money system in
Lebanon. People are angry. They want their money. They attack banks.
Last week, a man with a gun comes to a bank in Beirut. He wants all his money. He says that he will not leave the
bank. A group of people outside the bank cheer on this man. He is a hero for them. Similar incidents happen in five
other banks on Friday.

Paris saves energy

The Eiffel Tower is in Paris, France. It is one of the most popular monuments in the world.
Millions of people visit it every year. The tower shines in the dark. It has many lights. The tower twinkles for five
minutes at midnight. The lights switch off at 1 AM.
Officials want to save some energy. The tower will shine only until 11:45 PM. At this time, the last visitors leave the
tower. The tower uses a lot of electricity. 4% of the electricity are for night lights.
An energy crisis is happening in the world. Electricity is very expensive. People do not know how much electricity
and gas they will have.
Officials look for ways to save energy. Paris wants to lower the temperature in public buildings. For example, they
are city pools, train stations, hospitals, and others.
South Africa’s problems with electricity
South Africa has the biggest economy on the African continent. The country needs a lot of electricity. The situation
is a problem for Eskom.
Eskom is an energy company. It is a government company. It has many power stations across the country. They
are getting old. They don’t work well.
Regularly, something breaks. Power cuts happen. A power cut turns off electricity for some time. Last week, many
power cuts happen. 42 power stations have problems.
Officials promise to change the situation. They have plans on what to do. Eskom says that it can take at least one
year before the situation is better.

Japanese people and alcohol

In the past in Japan, people usually take other workers to a bar. They drink alcohol together. Young people don’t do
this activity anymore.
The coronavirus changes everything. People can’t go to pubs and bars. They look after their health more. They
don’t drink less alcohol. They prefer non-alcoholic drinks.
This trend happens in all the world. It happens especially among young people. The sales are growing for non-
alcoholic drinks. Japanese bars now offer many non-alcoholic drinks.
The government wants young people to drink more alcohol. The situation is not easy. Young people have a
different lifestyle than older people.

The taste of insects

Insects are very small animals. They can be spiders, bugs, or worms. In many parts of the world, people eat
insects. It is a normal food for them to eat insects.
Insects are very healthy. Many Westerners don’t like eating insects. They think that they are disgusting.
Some insects taste like meat. For example, if you steam a meal worm, it smells like sweetcorn. If you fry it, it tastes
like a shrimp.
Insects for food are much better than meat. Insects need less land and water. Cows and other animals make gasses
that can be bad. Insects make almost none.
